28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, May 7, 1975 20 persons registered for smoking withdrawal course The Management Commit- tee of the Durham Region Tuberculosis and Respir- atory Disease Association voted toapply for space at the World Plowing Match to be held in--September. It is hoped that films, depicting the work of the association in Physical conditioning courses for asthmatic child- ren: smoking withdrawal clinics. can be shown. Liter- ature will be distributed on respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic bron- chitis, asthma, tuberculosis, etc. along with pamphlets on air pollution, smoking, ete. No smoking buttons will be available, and Thank you for Not Smoking cards. The second smoking with- drawal course is to be held in the Blue Flame Room, Whitby, with Mrs. W. A. Boagey as chairman. There will be eight evening ses- sions, commencing Monday, September 16th. Twenty persons have already regis- tered for the course. The nomination committee was appointed and is com- posed of Dr. Gordon Willey, Oshawa: Mrs. W. A. Boagey, Whitby and Mr. E. R. Love- kin, Newcastle. The annual meeting of the association will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at the port Perry High School. Dr. OPP report Week of April 28 - May During the week of April 28th, officers at Whitby Detachment investigated the following occurrences. There was one break and enter and one attempted break and enter, 1 theft, 2 assaults, one of which occur- red at the Porto Pizza in Port -Perry and resulted in a Port Perry man being charged with common assault. Officers answered 5 distur- bance calls and investigated 1 report of malicious damage to property. During the week 5 persons were arrested and charged with impaired driving and 9 persons were charged with offences against the Liquor Control Act. Three driving comp- laints were investigated and officers. on routine traffic patrol gave assistance to stranded motorists on 7 occasions.
