- PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, May 22, 1975 Donor declaration on new driver licences Minister of Transportation and Communications John R. Rhodes today announced in the Legislature Ontario is the first province in Canada to included an organ donor sec- tion on drivers' licences. Mr. Rhodes said the licence form has been redesigned to include a legal declaration which allows drivers to don- ate or allow transplantation cof human organs after death. "Adriver who has reached the. age of majority (18 in Ontario) has only to indicate his wishes, then sign the declaration," Mr. Rhodes explained. The Minister went on to point out drivers are not obligated to sign the organ donor section of the licence. If a driver doesn't want to - this become a donor, he can detach and destroy this sec- tion of his licence. "We sincerely hope that those among the more than four million licensed Ontario drivers who are eligible will consider taking advantage of declaration,' Mr. Rhodes said. Outside the Legislature, Mr. Rhodes presented the first of the new licences to Dr. George A. deVeber, chair- man of the Organ Donor Program Committee, the Kidney Foundation of Can- ada, and director of the Dialysis and Kidney Trans- plantation Program at Tor- onto Western Hospital. Ashburn area news The family Sunday Service at Burns Church on Sunday, May 11th was a good service. It was nice to see several visitors, some families from a distance came to comme- morate Mother's day. The order of service put out by the Presbyterian Church was followed. The Junior choir sang "Keep on the Sunny Side", and the whole congregation enjoyed singing "He's got the Whole World in his Hands". Rev. McEntyre talked to us about building a christian home from the young peoples standpoint and the Mothers and Fathers. The service was conducted by Douglas Ashton, superinten- dent of the Sunday School, and members of the Sunday School took part in the scrip- ture readings. Two children were bap- tized.
