When the Service is over, we expect to go to a restaurant where there will be a reser- vation for us. If there is a cancellation, please let us know. On Saturday, there will be great preparations for the Hospital Spring Fair. If there are any "Head" ladies who cannot get their baked goods over, please leave it at Betty Reader's by 12:30 noon. Please label your fruit loaves, cakes, cookies and pies so people will know what kind they are. Where poss- ible, put in boxes, plastic "bags or some kind of con- tainer. We wish to extend sym- pathy to Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hope & family for the recent bereavement of Roger's mother at the Sutton Nursing Home. Following her operation, Mrs. Ethel Redman seems to be making much better pro- gress now. Mrs. Emma Stephen has again had a flight from Estavan, Sask., and is pre- sently visiting at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Gerrow. On account of the beautiful holiday weekend, the congre- gation numbers had under- standingly dropped at 'Grace' church. Rev. Wylie had chosen an appropriate service, in keeping with Victoria Day. He always has such a good store of appeal- ing stories. For the children, he explained how heads of the teasel plant are imported from Spain for teasing wool in our woollen mills. No other manufactured produce has excelled its use. Things like honesty, truth, fair play and love can never be improved upon either. In considering our National Holiday, we remember our heritage and the far-reaching influence of the Monarch, Victoria, who became a Queen at 18 and remained on the throne for 63 years. In reviewing her many incid- ents of humane actions and great faith, it is found that they far outweighed her weaknesses. Like the dying words of King David to his son, Solomon who remembered and tried to follow them for awhile. Our present Queen, on June 2,1953, requested the prayers of her people to help her rule wisely. It would seem that a good monarchis a symbol for the country. I would like to repeat several of the stories con- cerning the good works of Queen Victoria, especially the one involving the painting entitled '"The Doctor", but you should hear them direct- ly from Rev. Wylie. Linda Samells spent the weekend with the Mec Creight's, at theirs farm home. . between members of Hate literature increasing at an alarming rate *"The proliferation of publi- cations demeaning Ontario's visible minorities is increas- ing at an alarming rate", Dr. T. H. B. Symons, Chairman of the Ontario Human Rights Commission said today. Dr. Symons cited as an example the recent publicat- ion Bended Elbow. The title parodies the incident that occurred two years ago the native people and the United States Government at Wounded Knee, - South Dakota. This publication purports to represent the views of the non-native pop- ulation of Kenora towards the native people in that area. It was published as a result of the occupation of Anicinabe Park by young native Indians inthe summer of 1974 and the subsequent confrontation that took place. The Human Rights Chair- man said that, "This docu- ment can only be seen as a deliberate attempt to dispar- age the native peoples of the Kenora region. Publications of this nature," he stated, "do not ease the problems of this community, nor do they pro- vide a rational basis for resolving them. They merely serve to increase tension and nutual distrust between the parties involved." Another example of this type of publication is a Toronto bulletin, Aryan, which advocates white sup- remacy and attacks other social groups, particularly the Black community. Dr. Symons commented that the Human Rights Commission is deeply disturbed by the proliferation of publications such as these and feels that they can only serve to dam- age further race relations which are already tense in many Ontario communities. The Chairman made the statement in a public release to the press following inten- sive discussion of the issue at a regular meeting of the Ontario Human Rights Com- mission. His views were very # strongly supported by the ~Commission's five other members. - F.
