6 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, May 22, 1975 y Blackstock Women's Institute celebrates its 60th Anniversary A nice gathering was held ontheevening of May 14in St. John's Anglican Parish Hall when Blackstock Women's Institute invited former members, also members of Shirley and Nestleton Instit- utes, to help them celebrate their sixtieth anniversary. The Hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion and each lady received a corsage. With Mrs. H. Shortridge as mistress of ceremonies, the programme opened with the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect repeated in unison, followed by words of welcome by President Mrs. Shortridge. A reading by Mrs. Archer, '"'Switcharoo" and a solo by Miss Gail Malcolm "The Sunshine of Zenith 75900 or 705-786-2982 Your Smile' were enjoyed by all, as was a skit presented by five members of the Black- stock branch, "How Not to Run an Institute Group Meeting". following this, Leanne VanCamp, Sandra Little and Kelly McLaughlin played several sweet num- bers on their recorders. Mrs. Gladys Thompson gave a reading, 'The Snoring Hus- band", then introduced the guest speaker for the even ing, Mrs. L. Bigby of Ennis- killen, who in her relaxed manner told us many things about life in country, Jamaica. Mrs. Big- by, also showed articles made by the ladies of Jamaica for the tourist trade which is becoming increas- ingly important to the econ- CROFT'S Driving School Free Home Pick-up CALL COLLECT her native omy of the Island. These were beautiful and showed the artistic ability of the craftswomen. The speaker was thanked by Mrs. H. McLaughlin and presented with a small token of apprec- iation. Another solo by Miss Gail Malcolm, "Christopher Robin Is Saying His Prayers' brought the pro- gramme to a close and O Canada was sung. The beautifully decorated birthday cake which centred the table, at the front, was cut by a President of many years ago, Mrs. Cecil Ferguson of Newcastle. The hostess Insti- tute served a tasty lunch of sandwiches, relishes, Birth- day cake and ice-cream and the guests mingled and enjoyed a pleasant visit together. Much credit is due the committee who arranged such a fitting evening to celebrate our Sixtieth Anni- versary. ~ GOING OVERSEAS PASSPORT PHOTO Contact Peter Hvidsten 985.7383 PORT PERRY STAR The Blackstock 'Women's Institute celebrated the organization's 60th Uxbridge calling on Mr. and Mrs. Davidson, from Picton. == anniversary May 14th at St. John's Anglican Parish Hall.
