In the anticipation of catch- ing aday's limit, some fisher- men overlook the safety pre- cautions of sound boating operation. The Ontario Safety League suggests that fishermen adopt a common sense attitude to their sport. Prevent the boating accident that may happen to you. Here are a few safety hints to consider: Keep loads light. - Extra clothing and equipment add weight dramatically. It is always better to keep loads lighter than called for on the 'blue plate' which designates the boat's maximum weight load of gear, motor and people combined. Watch the weather closely. Keep your car radio tuned to a local station for weather news broadcasts and consult people in your fishing area about weather signs. Remain seated in the boat. Most boats are unstable when you stand to cast or land fish particularly if your passen- ger suddenly shifts his weight. Stay close to shore. When too far out, you may not be able to reach shore safely if the weather deteriorates. Choose the right boat. INVEST NOW!
