The Council grants, out- lined in a list released by the Arts Council last week, will go to Arts organizations and individuals throughout the province. The over $4 million in grants were approved at the first meeting of the council in the 1975-76 fiscal year. The Town Hall Theatre was one of over 80 dance, theatre, literature, visual arts, music, film, photography, or other special projects the council is interested in promoting. Port Perry is one of 29 Ontario Communities served by the organization. Eight groups getting grants in the area of arts and education, literature, music, theatre, dance and the visual arts are being assisted for the first time. ' The board of directors of the Town Hall 1873 are in the midst of preparations for a summer theatre program to be held at the Old Town Hall this summer, a program that will replace the scheduled NDWT Company's staging of "The Donnelly's'" here. The company told local organizers two weeks ago that the appearance here would have to be postponed until fall or winter. Following the meeting with the NDWT Company, how- ever, organizers expressed enthusiasm about the possi- bility of staging their own summer program, and said directors, actors, and other people can be contacted. There were many interesting answers given to the roll call 'What would you like to learn?' Several of the ladies wanted to know how to crochet, others to tat, quilt, play tennis, macrame, broomstick and hairpin lace, drive a car and learn to do "well" what they already know how to do. The Motto "Learn to do by doing" was given by Valerie Medway-Welch, Convenor for the evening for Education & Cultural Activities. Corre- spondence was received from the Ratepayer's Associ- ation regarding a recycling meeting. The District Annual at the U.C. Green- bank was discussed and interested members agreed to meet at 8:45 at Betty Reader's on Tuesday, May 21. Mrs. Elizabeth Stichmann gave a full report of the 4H project 'A World of Food in Canada" which followed the Canada'Food Guide. We all wished we could have gone with Elizabeth, Norma Cro- well, and the six girls on their trip to Toronto to visit the There will be a general pick-up of articles for the Auction Sale on Saturday, July 5th and cubs are deliver- ing flyers to this effect. A very favourable reply ing from "The Scugog Girls Institute' held at the Carter Farm. Many familiar names were mentioned. Alva Thompson read Broomstick Lace instructions from the May -10th Winnipeg Free Press and then we all got busy to try and learn a little plus Hairpin Lace. Norma Crowell showed many of the ladies the art of hooking pictures. The lunch of assorted cake and jellied fruit salad was very appropriate for the warm evening and topped off another very successful Scugog Island Women's Institute meeting. ' wasreceived by Helen Fedyk regarding the International Women's Year Grant. We were brought up-to-date on the cost of extension tables, silver, dishes, .etc. for the Hall by Betty Reader. Plans are being made to have a Stanley Products party. Exact date and time will be announced later. We were transported back forty years in time when Joyce Heayn read us a meet- . Kensington Market, St. Law- rence Market and China Town. As many of us could not attend the 4H Achieve- ment Day in Uxbridge on May 24th, Miss Lee Ann Doupe, gave us a preview of the Scugog Island exhibit "Food is Health in China". Her speech was very well presented and most inform- ative. Beth Wilson's art work and printing on the exhibit was much admired. Photography Candid Weddings \'SIEBE REKKER 220 COCHRANE ST.
