Council will ask the OPP about the possibility of installing signs designating built-up areas, stop signs, or any other method of getting rid of the speeders. Coun. Reg Rose suggested council .install speed limit signs along the built-up areas on beach roads, but Mayor Lawrence Malcolm said such a project would be a major effort. He said similar problems were experienced previously, and investigations found that while there are many areas Theta Delta at Oshawa show March 15, 1975, the Theta Delta chapter sponsored a St. Patricks Day dance at the Utica Hall. A lunch was served after the dance, and from all reports a terrific time was had by all. For the regular meeting of March 19, the girls travelled to Oshawa and attended a fashion show. The fashions were presented by Franz Haute Couture Fashions and was sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi chapters of Oshawa. The Cancer Society had a film presentation on April 2, 1975, at the Oddfellows Hall which we attended. Later we adjourned to Dianna Find- lay's for the business portion of our meeting. A pot luck lunch was an interesting ending to the evening of bowling at the Port Perry Bowling Lanes, April 8. The Founders Day supper and dance was held oh May 5 at the Oshawa Legion Hall on Simcoe Street South. We were very proud of our girl of 'the year, Carol Martland. . Eleanor Bailey and Shirley. . XI Alpha Sigma ° Also of the two girls who have been helping us all year, Baster. Chapter couldn't decide which girl should be named girl of the year, so they were both crowned and will be sharing the honour. May 7, 1975 meeting was held at the home of Barb Siebarth. The program "The Printed Word and Your Life" was presented by Carol Williamson and Joan Lee. We participated in a play called 'Equal Rights". The play was very funny and drew a great many chuckles from everyone. The meeting of May 21 started with a plant auction. Donna Donnelly acted as our -auctioneer. Then, due to the mosquitos, we moved inside for the business portion of our meeting. "Make an Art of Living" was presented by Donna Don- nelly and Fran Sluggett. Col. R. S. McLaughlin was the subject of the program. The wondrous thi e myn accomplished during his Tife time, which extended for 101 years. Oshawa and all sur- rounding districts must have been touched in different ways by this marvelous man. The man that E. P. Taylor said "had a heart of gold". that<could be designated as " built-up, they are so chopped up that erecting speed signs' would not be feasible, Mr. Malcolm had another suggestion." "We used to leave a big stone on the road. That slows 'em," he quipped. Mayor Malcolm said that 50 per cent of the property on each side of the road must be- residential, to qualify as a built-up area. Properly posting speed on all beach roads, pointed out Road Superintendent Ron ASTRA BRAND - JAPANESE MANDARIN ORANGES LIQUID DETERGENT 24 FL OZ. BOTTLES 2:99 MacDonald, would be a major task. He said not only does the actual speed sign have to be posted, but also a sign of the approaching 30 mph zone, then a speed posting sign every 1,000 feet. Mayor Malcolm suggested + that stop signs be installed on every corner, a solution he said was used in the: community of Caesarea to reduce speeding. Despite the fact that a bylaw would have to be passed for each Stop sign installation, the v [} desmlesln on $i LAC Rd A 3 SEALER 820 PRR Te SARS BF A DILFY 3 process would be easier and more effective than the post- ing of speed signs. Information Scugog Township Road Superintendent Ron Mac- Donald will approach the Regional Works Department to try and obtain plans "to see what they are doing" at the township's west bound- ary road. A mass reconstruction "THE FRIENDLY FOLKS". ROUND STEAK: operation by the Region is underway along Regional Road 23, the division bet: ween Uxbridge and Scugog Townships. A suggestion that a resol- ution be passed requesting the Region to supply the plans was felt to be *'too slow, a method".
