The local club have now dropped three games ina row after winning the first game of. the season and are still "buried" in sixth place in the seven team Oshawa City and District League. The Lumbermen received an outstanding pitching per- formance last week in Oshawa but still dropped a 2-1 decision to Charlton Trans- port. Laurie Williams walk- ed the first batter for Charl- ton Transport in the game, and did not allow a hit or another base runner until the final inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Williams retired the first two Charlton batters and had two strikes on the batter, when a low inside pitch struck the batter and he was awarded first base, the next batter ground- ed a single over second base and then Charlton won the game with a triple to deep right field that scored two runs. The 2-1 loss should not distract from the fine pitch- ing effort by Laurie Williams and errorless ball by the team in the field. The Club is now starting to play as a unit and should move up in the standings in the next couple of weeks. Tom Lawrence lead the club at the plate with two hits, with Bill Wanamaker, Gene Hurst and Doug Christie hav- ing the other Port Perry hits. The Lumbermen have two tough games this week as) they play Starr Furniture" tonight (Wednesday) in Oshawa and then host Charl- ton Transport on Thursday night at the local park at 8 p.m. Last Weeks Scores: Starr Furniture 1 - Oshawa Juniors 0; Foley Plumbing 8 - Starr 1; Charlton Transport 2 Cook and Bill Jansen. abi oy oy Ta 00 TIAL e RESIDENTIAL [ ] e COMMERCIAL ® REPAIRS Br SPORT SHORTS Last Thursday'S home game with P & R Truck Rentals was rained out and will be rescheduled. Bill Wanamaker who has been forced to do all the catching, with the injury to Hugh Johnston, has been doing an excellent job behind the plant, and if he can get his batting to improve, he should be in for a big year. Action was heavy at the lakefront ball park last weekend with the Ontario County Baseball League now into full swing.
