Can we afford it? Yes, of course, But think of all the other small that have almost doubled in price, a card of pins, a spool of thread, knit- ting wool, a writing pad, pet food; in their unconspicuous way these near necessities are just as much a drain on the household allowance as the- inflated prices of milk, eggs, canned goods, not to forget housing and Services The domestic - budget . either almost twice what . used to be or the quality of life has to be sadly altered. ~ Right now- in Canada the labour movement is decided- ly restless and the workers are being harshly criticized for seeking what seems in some .cases an exhorbitant wage packet. The suddeness and size of the demands undoubtedly will be inflation- ary but so, of course, are high profits and large salar- ies. Some sections of labour, hospital and postal workers for instance, were very poor- ly payed in the past and the apparent vast increase in the pay pockets has really just brought them abreast of the current cost of living. If escalatory clauses were add- ed to union contracts so that * wages stayed more or less in line with inflationary trends we might have been spared . many disputes. £3 Last Tuesday Janice Stone' was graduated as Bachelor of Music from the Faculty of Music at the University of Western Ontario. i Mrs. Fred Real was a guest of friends in Mallory- . town.
