Local Softball fans are reminded of the Oshawa City and District All-Star game to be played in Port Perry on Saturday, July 26th, when the opposition will be the current Canadian Softball Cham- pions Oshawa Tony's. It is possible Pete Landers, the top pitcher in Canada, may be on the mound in this contest. over the last place R & P Truck Rental at North Oshawa Park. In spite of their last place standing, the Oshawa team has improved since the Lum- bermen defeated them in Port Perry last month by a 12-0 score. They have acquired several new play- ers, including pitcher Brian Rose who relieved starting pitcher Jim Beavis in the third inning and kept the local club off the score board after they had built up an early 4-1 lead. Ken Goreski was the win- ning pitcher for Port Perry as he allowed only 4 hits and was only in trouble in the seventh inning when he allowed a double and single. The Lumbermen had eight hits in this contest with Brent Heard collecting two, with singles going to Tom Lawrence, Rick Beare, Bill St. John, Gene Hurst, Hugh Johnston and Bill Cornish who was making his first appearance of the season. The game was played at Port Perry High School field. The first half which was played in the rain ended 1-0 for the Chargers over the Uxbridge Hornets. During the second half, the Chargers were able to leng- then their lead by scoring 3 more goals. The defence and halfbacks played a.strong game and were able to move the ball up field so the forwards could score. Hosted by the Lake Scugog Sailing Club, the event was sponsored by Zone three of the International Laser Class Association. The class is a relatively new, but rapidly growing event. . 50 boats in first Laser Regaatta It looks like a Laser Class Regatta held at Caesarea Saturday could become an annual event, according to race organizer Morgan Sears, chairman of the Laser Division of the Lake Scugog Sailing Club. The regatta, the first of its kind held in the area, proved 'very successful," accord- ing to Mr. Sears, with almost 50 competitors showing up from points as far away as Kingston and London, Ontario. He said that there was even one entry from Manitoba. Sponsored by Zone 3 of the International Laser Class Association and hosted by the Lake Scugog Club, the event 'here reflected the phenome- nal enthusiasm and rapid growth of the sport across the country and the world. A purely Canadian boat (it was designed and built by a Canadian four years ago) the Laser craft has mushroomed into one of the most popular.
