dl FRAY | FEA) The garbage collection firm of Puckrin and Sons will get an additional $3,980. for picking up an additional five bags of garbage from Port Perry business, commercial and industrial owners in Port Perry, and an additional $400. for picking up garbage at the community's parks. Council approved the hikes, all above a contract price of $17,680. arrived at earlier, at the Monday meeting.' The increase in business, commercial and industrial garbage came as the result of complaints by merchants that a limit of five bags was unrealistic, and complaints by the collection firm that up to 20 businesses were putting out much larger quantities of garbage. But even after council had amended the collection bylaw to allow the increases, Holstein breeders' Evaluation Day One hundred Holstein Breeders gathered at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wilson, Uxbridge, and were instructed by experienced breeders and showmen. This was the first Evaluat- ion Day ever held in Ontario - County and the directors were grateful to the men who passed on their experience in breeding, showing and judging. Robt. Flett, National Director, spoke on choosing good young cows for future breeding. He compared two cows and pointed out the strong and the weak points of the animals. Roy Ormiston, a successful Holstein breeder, spoke on cow families and line breed- - ing, also cautioning the group on inbreeding. Merv McQuarries from United Breeders, Guelph, spoke on studying pedigrees and the importance of proven sires. John Buckley, - Lindsay, who has made use of his 4H training, demonstrated clip- ping cattleready for the show ring. Maurice Jebson, noted judge spoke on showing cattle, presenting your animal to the judge, and emphasized good sportsman- ship. After which a class of mating cows was judged by the group and placed by the group and officially placed "by material giving reasons for placing them in that order. Uxbridge prison?? Norman Severud, regional information officer of the Canadian. Penitentiary Ser- vice, said the service is interested in talking to Ux- bridge council about the pos- sibilities of building a recep- tion centre in that township. Infact, thinks Mr. Severud, Uxbridge may be even a better location than Scugog Township. Scugog council turned down an offer to have the $10 million institution built in the township. At least, one Uxbridge councillor has already indi- cated he would be interested in talking to the federal penitentiary officials. another problem arose. The amendment states a limit for commercial, business and industrial users of 600 pounds, not 10 containers as asked for by the firm. Mr. Puckrin pointed' out that 600 pounds of cardboard g y CRA ¥ Sk Bt BE I 3 a AN NEES TENE en ~ Amend garbage contract boxes is a lot more than 10 containers. Coun. Reg Rose didn't think it necessary to change the amending bylaw again, rather a letter informing such users of the limit will be sent out. Seek noise bylaw information The continuing saga of Scugog Township's noise bylaw goes on. : Councillors voted to for- ward the proposed bylaw to their solicitor for comment on what portions of it fall under the criminal code or other legislation and if such offences should be enforced by the township or through what authorities. The decision to seek advice from the township solicitor comes on the heels of an Ontario Provincial Police reply to a Scugog letter asking for such information. The letter states that the OPP do not enforce munici- pal bylaws unless an agree- ment has been entered into by the force and the munici- pality. The letter states that it would be the duty of the township's bylaw enforce- ment officers to enforce the proposed noise bylaw. 4th ANNUAL THURS, FRI, SAT., SUN.
