They also took part in the North York "Amesbury Sport Club" bantam softball tournament the weekend July 12. They defeated Picton 11-1 in the first game of the tournament, then lost out to North Bendale of Scarbor- ough 3-2, who went on to win the tournament in the"A" division. Kevin Walker threw both games, hurling a three hitter against Picton, then tossed an eight hitter and lost to North Bendale. Dennis Fran- essen hit a homerun while Steve Geer, Tom Perigoe, Mike Nesbit, Mike Doupe and Steve Redman, Bill Owen all had two hits each. Kevin Walker also had a triple in this one. Against North Bendale Walker had two hits includ- ing a triple that drove in two runs. On Monday night past, the Lions Club took on Uxbridge, and handed them a 14-7 setback. Then they traveled to Unionville on Thursday. They too were given the old heave ho 16-2. In this one Steve Geer led the attack with 4-4 at bat, and a walk while Kevin Walker, Danny Taylor, Steve Redman; Tom Perigoe and Mike Nesbit all had two hits. Kevin Walker had 5 runs batted in. Perigoe took over the catching duty and did an outstanding job. This week the team is very busy with Uxbridge coming in on Monday, then back to Uxbridge Friday. Toss in here is a Wednesday night encounter at the Lakefront Park. Then its on to Belle- ville Saturday for the Quinte Bay Tournament. This team is starting to round into shape in there bid for the playoffs. All-Stars as the Softball coaches in Oshawa seem to think there aren't too many good players north of the Ridges. Rick Beare whois a fine third baseman for the local club, was voted to the All-Star team as an outfielder, and Bill Wanamaker was added to the squad as a back-up catcher.
