Our visitors were Mrs. Beatrice Hooton, Valerie Medway- Welch's mother from Eng- land; Mrs, Evelyn Redman; and our guest speaker, Mrs. Judy MacColl. Reta Wilson played the piano for us as we sang the Ode, The Mary Stewart Collect was then repeated in unison. The roll call was easily answered by naming a child- ren's 'author, a' children's book series, or other child- ren's books of interest. The Motto, "What Institute Means' was given by Alva Thompson in poem form. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted and the Treasurer's report given by Christina Prentice. Ann Chandler and Janis Richardson reported that Achievement Day for our 4-H girls re "A Touch of Stitch- ery" will be December 6th at the Uxbridge High School. Guests are invited to attend in the afternoon at 1:15. Some members will try and attend the Tweedsmuir Tea on Wednesday, October 22nd from 2 to 5 at the 1.O.O.F. Hall, sponsored by the Brook- lin W.I. To celebrate the 98th anni- versary of Sunderland Bap- tist Church, the 16th Town Hall Gospel Sing-Song Rally "will be held in the main auditorium of the Sunderland Town Hall, Sunday, October 26th at 3:00 P.M. Four hundred seats have been arranged to accommodate the large crowd expected to attend this popular fall gathering. Rev. After Mrs. Ruby Christie's request last month that Scugog Island women would be welcome on the Fair Board, we were delighted to learn that Bonnie Gerrow and Jess Chambers are now official members of the Port Perry Fair Board. Congrat- ulations ladies! A thank you card was received from Max and Elizabeth Stichmann. Anyone wishing to be a volun- teer at the Nursing Home is asked to attend a meeting at the Home on Thursday, Oct- ober 23rd at 1:30 p.m. The Port Perry Hospital is also looking for volunteers. Please contact any of the Hospital Aux. members and they will be pleased to have you join the Auxiliary and help in the volunteer work. We were sorry to receive the resignation of one of our charter members, Mrs. Trudi Zingg, who is moving to Gravenhurst. A farewell gift was presented to Trudi by our Public Relations Officer, Betty Reader. We wish Trudi and Ernest, and their child- ren, Viviane and Bida, every success in their new venture. Trudi has been a very active member and contributed much to our meetings. We will certainly miss her. Joyce Heayn introduced our guest speaker, Mrs. Judy MacColl, of the Children's Dept. of the Scugog Public Sunderland anniversary rally derland by popular request, as the guest speaker. Also, the Singing Edwards Family, from Brighton, Ontario, (a new group to Sunderland), a family of seven, will be present for the first time to sing their gospel songs. She is very enthusi- astic about her work and outlined many new ideas. Membership in the library is "free" and most welcome in these days of inflation. Adults may take out as many books as they wish but child- ren are limited to three. There are 9000 books in our local library, and should we desire to read a book not carried by the Scugog Public Library, our Libraridns have access to all parts of the country through the Central Ontario Region Library Sys- tem and will try to obtain it for us. There is a story time for pre-schoolers on Tuesday or Friday mornings from 10:15 to 11. This is very popular with the youngsters, The library has a good paper back service; inter-library loan; books with large print; the talking book service on tapes for the blind; films are avail- able; books in other lan- guages, etc. Norma Crowell thanked Mrs. MacColl for answering our many questions, for the variety of books she brought with her and her enlightening talk. A delicious lunch of as ort- ed pies was served by Va :rie Medway-Welch's group 'Education and Cultural Activies". There will be an 'exchange of gifts" at our November meeting, something you have made yourself. Appointed Manager of PORT PERRY RENT-ALL of 12 years, Mr. welcome.
