Smits started off at 5:25 of the first period with Nightin- gale picking up his first goal from Ron Short. Then at 14:55 Rick Evans scored from Ken Nightingale. A year ago, Fred Walker of Port Perry noted that g archery equipment was disappearing off sports outlet shelves as fast as they were being stocked. COULTER 0 With play in Coulters end most of the game Utica had a very good game defensively. Utica got all their goals in the first period. Coulters held them off in the second and third periods but could- n't pick up a goal for them- selves. Utica scored their first goal at 4:30 by Don Card with assists going to Jack Mons- ma and Eric Bens. Then at Redman scored Mitchell -and Don from Mike Bernie McKenenae. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1975 -- 19 R.H. Cornish students excel at Durham meet On Saturday, October 25, the R.H. Cornish Junior girls soccer team entered the D.E.T.A. Soccer Champion- ship after winning the Central Ontario Region tour- nament on October 10. The girls played three exciting games, one of which they defeated Rouge Hill 1-0, Wednesday, October 29, was the D.E.T A. final Cross- Country meet at Greenwood Park. The school had quali- fied in nine of the ten events after participating in the district meet held at Foxhead Golf Course in Uxbridge on October 22. The girls 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 year old teams won first place ribbons in the district and two seconds, a fourth, seventh and tenth in the finals. Overall they were the top K-8 school in Durham and received a plaque at the end of the meet. The boys also did well. Achieving one third, two fourths and a fifth they put forth their best. Special recognition should be given to Tracey Denby who had the best time of all of the girls at the meet. Well done, Tracey! On Thursday, a boys soccer game was held at the school. Cartwright Public School was defeated 2-0 with Dennis Card scored his second goal at 10:25 from Brian Reader and Eric Bens to leave the game at 3-0. Dennis Simms picked -up the shut out for Utica. Franssen and Keith McKin- non scorers. Three volleyball games were held for the girls against Joseph Gould. Al- though the girls tried hard they were defeated two games to one. Next week, they will visit Uxbridge for three return games. On Friday, the girls and boys school volleyball t-ams were challenged by the teachers. Congratulations to the boys team who were victorious and the girls team for a great effort!
