22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1975 News of interest from Seagrave By Marilyn Beacock Anyone entering a kitchen in the Seagrave area this week is very likely to be greeted by the delicious aroma of pumpkin pies bak- ing and probably the odd plum pudding steaming on the stove, all of this being done in preparation for our church's annual Turkey Sup- per which 'will be held on Wed. Nov. 5 (tonight) from 4:00 p.m. until all have had a chance to sample our good home baking. Unit 2 gals are pleased: to announce that they have re- ceived their cookbooks. The books were published to commemorate the 50th anni- versary of the United Church of Canada and we hope that each of you will purchase a copy and test some of the mouth watering receipes found on the pages therein. To obtain your copy please call Mrs. Ken Sturman at 985-7778 or ask any of the other Unit 2 ladies. Well Hallowe'en '1975 has "come and gone and with it arrived not only the little tots all dressed up in the usual get-up and garb but it also dragged out some adult 'lov- lies' who made some calls on their neighbours. I heard by the proverbial PORT PERRY HIGH SCHOOL WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL Commencement Exercises ON THE EVENING OF FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1975 AT 8:00 P.M. IN THE High School Auditorium The Staff and Students cordially invite you to attend. { grapevine that the south end of the village was hardest hit by these grown-up 'trick or treaters'. Poor Doc Belair was hustled by four "wild women" who pounced through his door and another young lady, who we will not mention' the name of, is contemplating re-papering her front hall after she tore the paper to ribbons when her 'guests' arrived. That is of course an exaggeration but we do think that she was a bit surprised! No serious incidents occured on this particular Hallowe'en and as the old adage states "a good time was had by all". Mr. Greg Smith has been representing his firm at a Hardware Show in Saska- toon during the past few days. Little Ted Sturman made his annual visit to the birthday box at Sunday School and deposited his six pennies. Happy Birthday Ted. Saturday evening Mrs. Don Beacock attended a stork shower for her sis- ter-in-law, Mrs. Bryan Bea- cock at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Beacock in Port. Perry. - Diane Puckrin, Bev. Madill, Pat Whyte, Fran Taylor, Wendy Zwerbrick, and Betty Somerville attend- ed a Curling Club card party on Thursday evening. Welcome home, Mr. and Mrs. Morley Bruce who have just returned from a trip to the warm and sunny state of Florida. Miss Joanne Nobbs had the misfortune to fracture her leg at school one day recent- ly. Hope you'll soon be able to shelve that cast real soon, Joanne! Several residents of the Seagrave area joined the members of the Greenbank congregation for the anni- versary celebrations at the Greenbank United Church. The congregation was then invited to stay and enjoy a delightful pot luck luncheon. Congratulations are cer- tainly in order for our new neighbours Mr. and = Mrs. Larry Willerton and family who have settled into their beautiful new home. After living in a tent trailer for the past few months I imagine this new home looks better than most to this young couple. Marilyn Puckrin, Joan Lee and Roberta Baird attended a pot luck luncheon on Wed. at the Port Perry Curling Club. Master Mark Sturman was 'the host of a Beaver party on Monday, Nov. 3. Several little Beaver friends enjoyed Mark's hospitality and a special thank you to his mom who probably helped a little ton! Congratulations to our newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. -Les Sharpe who exchanged vows in Lindsay on Nov. 3. Mrs. Sharpe was the former Mrs. Minnie Farmer of Hull, Yorkshire, England. Mr. and Mrs. Sharpe will be residing with the grooms daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jones. Your friends in the community extend their best wishes for years of happiness and good fortune to both of you. Don't forget the general UCW meeting on November 12at EP. m. in the Sunday School room. Anyone wish- ing to attend our Fellowship Sister Dinner on November 24th please contact Mrs. Don Beacock not later than the 15th of November.
