Scugog Island W.I. The Scugog Island Women's Institute president Mrs. Betty Ann Freeman, warmly welcomed twenty members to our Christmas meeting held Wednesday, November 19th at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall under the 'Citizenship & World Affairs" convenership. The Roll Call: 'Name a Canadian Indian tribe and tell where it is located" was very well answered. Chris- tina Prentice read an appro- priate motto on world affairs. : The 4 H project in the new year will be on bread baking and we have three possible leaders. It was suggested by Eliza- beth Stichmann that we have three coat racks made for the Hall by Joe Dowson. This was heartily approved by all members. Helen Redman, reporting for the Hall Board, advised that there will be considerable painting done to the inside of the Hall and kitchen and later in the washrooms and office. A committee of four, Elsie Pogue, Helen Redman, Jess Chambers and Eliza Fra- lick, will see about installing draperies and tracks for the Hall. Bonnie Gerrow agreed to obtain prices on storm windows for the Hall. The Kitchen Committee is to look after obtaining a much needed clock for the kitchen. Alva Thompson brought along a variety of spoons to show us which could . be ordered. Betty Reader gave a final report on the pur- chase of dishes from Cassidys. A fine report was given by Reta Wilson who attended the Area Convention at the Royal York as our delegate. As a result of this report, it was moved that we give $10.00 to the Erland Lee Home and $10.00 to the Hon. W. A. (Bill) Stewart Award Fund to help set up a gradu- ate scholarship at the Uni- versity of Guelph. There will be no further meetings until the third Wednesday in January when our regular meeting will be under the "Family & Con- sumer Affairs' Convenor- ship of Helen. Hortop's group. This will be our fourth anniversary. An exchange of homemade gifts was followed by a lunch of delicious cheese and breads. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
