20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1975 Flamingos drop 2 games By Wayne Venning Port Perry Flamingo Pas- tries Juniors continued their current losing streak as they dropped two Central Ontario Junior "C" League games last week. The Flamingos hold on third place in the standings is now being threatened by three clubs, Bowmanville, Frankford and Stouffville. * BOWMANVILLE 5 FLAMINGOS3 The Flamingos played a rare mid-week game in the new Hampton Arena on Thursday night, but the local team could not handle the fast skating - 'red Eagles" on the large ice surface. Bill Newton opened the scoring for Port Perry and the lead held up until early in the second period when Bowmanville scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead. In the final frame, the Red Eagles scored twice and | SPORT SHORTS | SCORES in last weeks league action had no upsets or surprises as the Clippers trounced Port Hope 10-5 in' Stouffville, Frankford edged Stouffville 7;5 at home, and Cobourg defeated the Njskies 5-3 in Lindsay. The Flamingos are current- ly playing "five hundred hocket" at nine wins, nine losses and three ties at the halfway mark in the schedule. ~ Injuries again forced the team to use three Juveniles, Tim Ashbridge, Mike Adams and Don Tran, all played a strong game. Missed from the line-up for Sunday's game were Andy Litt with an injured elbow, Orville Crowder sitting out the second game of his three game suspension and Scott Robinson who has missed the last ten games with his big injury. Ken Davidson played another strong game in goal as he handled 53 shots and the goals that did get by him were scored from scrambles "in front of the net. The Flamingos have a busy schedule this week as they played the "Clippers" in Stouffville on Tuesday even- "ing and travel to Port Hope on Thursday 'night to play the Panthers. ' On Sunday night at the local arena, the Flamingo Hockey Club will hold its fourth annual Christmas . Game when they invite all children in the area of Public School age to attend the game absolutely free as their guests. The Port Hope panthers will be the oppos- ition for this 8 p.m. game. Snowmobile safety clinic poned until March ~ The December general membership meeting of the Port Perry Snowmobile Club was. supported by a large turn-out of members. Re- ports were heard from each committee indicating that we are in fine shape for this: season. "Our membership now stands at 151 members. , The Entertainment .chair- man reported that tickets for the Banquet and Dance in February will be on sale shortly from any member of the executive. The Teen Dance held in November. was a great success and another one is being planned for sometime in February with the proeeeds to go to the local new arena fund. The Safety clinic scheduled for early January has been postponed until March. Tic- kets: are now available for the CORSA dance to be held January 31st following the CORSA games day. Best wishes of the season to everyone. ; Bobcats lose, tie against Uxbridge UXBRIDGE 4 PORT PERRY 2 On Thursday, Dec. 11th, Murray Williams Bobcats Midget No. 2 club hosted Uxbridge and lost their first game of the season 4-2. There were no goals scor- ed in the first period but in the second period 'Kevin Martens got the Bobcats on the scoreboard, Uxbridge 'then came back with Steve Shortt, Pete Delic Doug Adams and Ed New- man scoring to give the vic- tors a 4-1 lead at the end of . the second period. The Big Blue machine tried to come back in the third "period with Ritchie Lefort-scoring. But with the strong forechecking by Ux- bridge and a couple of bad penalties the Bobcats were stopped from tieing the game. ~ PORT PERRY 2 UXBRIDGE 2 On the next night, Friday, Dec. 12, Murray Williams Bobcats Midget No. 2 club travelled to Uxbridge .and came home with two all tie. gave the lead at the end period. Ken Vipond scored at 8:55 assisted by Wayne Church. John VanHeuvel started the second period off with an assist' going to Murray Down. Ken Vipond picked up two more goals at 6:50 and 8:35 with one assist going to Bill Down. At the 7:00 minute mark of the third period Wayne Church scored from Bill Down and at 12:20 Al Upphoy finished the scoring with an assist going to Ken Down. This was a rather rough game as Don Phinney and Murray Down were kicked ed a close checking period with neither team scoring. In the Second period Coult- ers came on strong off the faceoff and at the :20 second mark Philips scored their only goal assisted by Zaporo- zan. Both teams played hard but no scoring was done in the remainder of that period. At 6:40 of the third period Brians got on the scoreboard on a goal by John Pierce assisted by Dave Dalton and Keith Frasier. Bill Peeters got the winning goal unas- sisted at the 11:00 minute mark.
