We are glad to report Mrs. Clarence - Harrison is pro- gressing favourably. Al- though still in Sunnybrook Hospital at time of writing. We sincerely hope she will <nnn he home again. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ash- ton held a family birthday party at their home on Sun. December 7th, in honour of Mrs. Herbert Ashton, who celebrated his 80th birthday. Some of the guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Purdy. Mr. and Mrs. Her- - mon Kerry and Mr. Nelson Ashton. Sunday, December 14 was a very special day at Burns Church and began in Sunday School with a "Birthday Party for Jesus". Each class with their teacher sat around a table with delicious muf- fins, jams and juice, coffee for the adults. Then each child was given a little cake with a candle in and all sang 'Happy Birthday Jesus'. - The superintendant Mr. D. Ashton led in some carols and also the reading of the advent calender by some of the pupils. : A film strip, The Shepherd Boys Gift, was shown by Mrs. W. Hopkins. Then everyone went up to the sanctuary for the regular morning service which also proved to be different but a very impressive. Rev. McEntyres sermon "The gift and demand of love' was very helpful, es- pécially for this time of year. The Jr. Choir sang -"Come along with me to Bethle- hem" with the Sr. Choir assisting on the last part. It was White Gift Sunday and everyone brought their gifts during the singing of "Noel". These gifts will go to ,Evangel Hall. 'Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lynde was asked to light the Advent wreath, since it was their 59th wedding anniversary. After Mr. McEntyre explain- ed the meaning of the special candle lit for the day, he gave Frank and Evelyn the good wishes and blessings of the congregation. It was nice to see so many of the Lynde family to wor- ship with them on their special day and as an extra treat for them and the con- gregation two of their daughters, Mrs. W. Hamil- ton (Shirley) and Mrs. Maurice Bradley (Carol) sang "Near to the heart of God". The Sacrement of Holy Communion was observed, which made for a very mean- ingful and happy service. Forty-six members of the Lynde family sat down to a delicious dinner in the Com- munity Centre in honour of their mother and father, and Dear . grandparents on their an- niversary. Guests were pres- ent from Highland Grove, Harcourt, Minden, Pickering Toronto, Oshawa, Brooklin and Ashburn, Mr. and Mrs. R. Batten visited with Mr. and Mrs. D. Bentley and Douglas of Guelph on Sunday. Visitors with Misses Mary : and Hilda and Mr. W. Hop- kins were Mrs. Jennie Johns- ton of Glen Major and Messrs. Jim Hanley and Mr. Chas. Creiton of Toronto. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. W. Lindsay and family who moved into their new home in the village last Saturday, also Mr. and Mrs. Higgs and their two children who have moved in the house west of the church. Mrs, Frank Gardner enter- tained her family on Sund at a birthday gathering in honour: of her'/son Jeff, her mother Mrs, Climston and brother-in-law Mr. John Cur- tis, both of Baldwin. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw attended a Christmas family gathering at their nieces home, Mr. and Mrs. C. Whid- den. 'Greenbank area news A good crowd at Church on Sunday enjoyed a very love- ly pre Christmas service with the music provided by George Beare and his group. Members of this group are. Marie Cookman on piano, Barbara Ward, and Dawn Real play accordian, Jamie Cordnor on drums, Terry Till and Scott Kyut on guitar and George Timms soloist and of course, the leader George Beare. They are to be con- gratulated on their fine music. Miss Valerie Sweetman of Port Perry visited with her grandparents Mr..and Mrs. Roy Leask on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John King and girls have recently mov- ed to their new residence just east of Port Perry on the causeway, we wish them the best in their new community. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Blakely of Toronto entertained the Williams family to a Christ- mas gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Blakely on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mel McGee held the McGee family Christmas on Sunday at their home, those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McGee and Terry and Mrs. Beatrice McGee of Lindsay, Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie, Wendy, and Steve McDevitt of Peterbor- ough,' Miss Debbie McGee and Norman Stewart of Tor- onto and Miss Pat Fairly.
