Cute little Kelly Crawford, 3, was one of about 200 children that met with Santa at the Legion's Children's Christmas Party on Saturday. The-children were entertained for about one hour before Santa arrived and gave each of them a gift. The event is arranged by the Veteran Sons and Daughters organization of the Legion. Increases in Old Age Secur- ity Pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement pay- ments represent the ninth quarterly escalation based on_the cost of living, as provided for in the Old Age Security Act. The new monthly total at the single rate for persons receiving both the basic Old Age Security pension and maximum Guaranteed In- come Supplement will be $226.12. The basic Old Age Security pension will rise in January to $132.90 from the present $129.28. The maximum Guaranteed Income Supplement for a single person, or a married person whose spouse is not a pensioner and is not receiv- ing a Spouse's Allowance, will go up in January to $93.22 from its current $90.68. The maximum supplement for a married couple, both pensioners, will increase to $82.78 each from $80.53. Canada pension beneficiaries get increace An estimated 723,000 beneficiaries under the Canada Pension Plan will receive increases of 11,2 per cent in January 1976 Health and Welfare Minister Marc LaLonde announced today. This increase reflects the full rise in the cost of living over the past year. The ten-year transition per- iod for the introduction of retirement pensions ends in December 1975. The maximum full retire- ment pension commencing January 1976 will be $154.86. The maximum monthly dis- ability pension payable in 1976 will be $157.59 while monthly benefits for dis- abled contributors' children and orphans of deceased contributors will be $41.44 per month. Maximum monthly surviving spouses' pensions will be $99.51 per month for persons under age 65 and $92.92 per month for spouses 65 or older. Of the estimated 723,000 persons who will be in receipt of CPP benefits at the end of December, some 442,000 will be retirement pensions; 117,300 will be sur- viving spouses and 50,000 will be disability pensioners.
