HVIDSTEN: A native of Norway, P. Hvidsten, publisher of Port Perry Star, entered the publishing field in his father's daily newspaper in a city of 15,000 population. This came to an end when Hitler's military forces invaded and occupied Norway in 1940. In March of 1941, he escaped into neutral Sweden, and from there in company with about another 100 Norwegian young men travelled half way around the world to join the Norwegian Air Force, then operating in Toronto, Ontario. After the hostilities, Mr. Hvidsten established a small printing business in North Bay, Ontario, in May, 1946. In 1953, he sold thisdusiness and with the assistance of his wife, purchased the Uxbridge Times-Journal. In 1963, the Port Perry Star was also purchased, but the Times- Journal was sold to former employees in 1974.
