Heron .The Community Centre was packed and overflowing for the annual Christmas concert on Monday evening December 22nd. Mr. Ross Batten was chair- man for the programme which was opened with two numbers by the Junior choir. The pre-school children in their usual pleasing way sang Jingle Bells, recited a poem and sang "We wish you a Merry Christmas'. Grade three had a play telling of 'The Birth of Christ". Gwen Richardson gave a meaningful recit- ation. Grades 4 to 6, had a "humourous play "Santa's New Look'. Sylvia Swiek- ick and Sharron Hogins sang a Christmas son with Sylvia accompanying them on the guitar. Grades seven to eight's number was Christmas with the Martians'. The commercials inter- spersed through the program made lots of laughs. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bath "played a medley of three songs on the guitar and zylophone. Debbie Lind- say's dance class did a pleasing number. A very impressive candle light service was held in the Church on Wednesday even- ing with a good attendance. Rev. McEntyre read the scriptures which led into the carols sung by the congre- gation. The Junior Choir sang two numbers, "I'm thinking of that first Christ- mas' with Lori Hoag sing- ing the solo and '"'Hosannah Praise Him' with Carol Crooks and Elaine Knight singing the duet part. The Senior Choir sang "Mary had a Baby" with Mrs. W. Hopkins taking the solos. It was good to see so many who were here to be with their families for Christmas out to the service. The Junior Choir and their leaders enjoyed going out carolling to some shut-ins and newcomers on Tuesday evening. If it hadn't been quite so cold, they would have been able to make a few more calls. However, we returned to the Church for a very welcome hot chocolate and cookies. (Too late for last week) In spite of -a very cold Christmas Sunday morning, December 21st, there was a good turn out at Sunday School and Church service. Diane Lehman, Lillian Crooks, Elaine Knight and Brenda Shepstone assisted Rev. McEntyre with the lighting of the Advent Wreath. The sermon was taken from John 1: 1-14, "The Word made Flesh" and the combined Junior and Senior Choirs sang an arrangement of "Away in a manger" as an anthem. "oo Three. ehildren were bap- tised, Deborah Lynn Batten, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Batten, Nicole Diane and Christopher Gor- don Duff, children of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Duff. There was also a present- ation made to Mr. R. Batten by Mr. Fred Daw for Special Service rendered to the con- gregation. Also a beautiful pot of plants presented to the organists, Mrs. E. Heron and Mrs. M. Agar. Thanks to Dr. McKinney, the choir enjoyed a happy time together around a well- laden table in front of the Christmas tree last Thurs- day evening after choir practice. The story of the birth of Jesus was read by Miss Chrissie Simpson and we enjoyed singing Christ- mas carols. Mr. James Doble of Toron- to, visited with his mother, Mrs. H. Doble, and sister's family, Mr. and Mrs. D. Ashton, over the weekend. Mrs. H. Kerry of Port Perry spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. A. Fisher and family. Visitors with Misses Mary and Hilda Hopkins and Wal- ter Hopkins recently were Mr. and Mrs. Grant Parrott and children of Wick and Mr. and Mrs. J. Peddie of Whitby. 2 Mr. and Mrs: Bryce Lynde and Angela of Glace Bay, N.S., are spending the Christmas holidays with their parents and families, Mr. and Mrs. J. Lynde and Mr. and Mrs. G. Godda.
