Puckrin With New Years cele- brations behind us and 1976 upon us, I wish everyone , peace, prosperity and good health to be able to enjoy this new year to the fullest. A little more relaxation for mom as the kids head back to school and dad back to work, as routine takes over this week. Church service and Sunday 'School were as usual with the children enjoying a film on ecology and Don Deacock and Mark Sturman donating to the birthday box. Happy Birthday to these two and any others I might have missed. Seagrave executive of U.C.W. will meet at the home of Mrs. Glenda Hutcheon on Thursday, January 8 at 8 p.m. English Burl Sienna Tropicana Spice Manor Oak Seagrave Congregation Meeting will be held Wed- nesday, January 14th and the Official Board of the Charge will be held Thurs- day, January 22nd. The extra 'long holiday gave some the chance to do some "over-do" visiting with friends. : Mr. and Mrs. Mel Tindall and Shannon of Sandford were Tuesgay dinner guests of Mr. rand Mrs. Don Beacock and boys, then. Saturday evening, they play- ed hosts to Mr. and Mrs. Greg Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Len Somer- ville and Melody-Anne had Sunday dinner with Betty's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Munroe of Epsom. Mrs. Rita Boe played hos- tess to Mr. and Mrs. Ted Suddard and daughters, Pat, Heather and friend of Osh- awa for New Years dinner, then Mr. and Mrs. Ross Dowson were her guests in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Guthrie of Audley were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Puckrin on Saturday evening, ' There was a good attend- ance at the annual Sunday School meeting Sunday night where the main topic was that of combining Church and Sunday School. The new teachers required were obtained and a com- mittee formed to find a pianist. A recommendation will be sent to the Congre- gational meeting regarding Church and Sunday School union. Some of the youngsters may even be getting used to that new teddy bear or doll, and probably some springs have already snapped, some batteries worn out, and some parts lost. Oh well, It's only 353 days until the next one! Above, hydro workmen remove a bell from the downtown Christmas decorations. Blackstock U.C.W. News Fourteen: members -and one guest met at the home of _Aileen Byers for a dessert lunch prior to the Christmas meeting of the afternoon unit. Erma Strong was warmly greeted by all. Flora Samells read a poem, "God's Gifts" and offered prayer to open the meeting. "The First Noel" was sung. Audrey Wright led the De- votions and began by light- ing a lovely candle. After the singing of two verses of "As with Gladness Men of Old", the scripture taken from Matthew 5; 14-16 was read. A short reading was followed by a prayer written by Edgar Guest. Four poems were then read 'urging us to "Light a Candle for Happiness, for Beauty, for Peace and for Kind- ness". A Christmas Prayer and the singing of 'Silent Night" brought the Worship to a ¢lose. During the business section it was---decided that Dora -- Martyn will be the next leader with Elizabeth Skeld- ing acting as assistant. Jean Adams and Aileen Byers will continue to act as secretary and treasurer. Everyone had a part inthe programme as follows: Flora - asked Gayle Mal- colm and Gladys Thompson to sing a duet, "Star of the East" which was beautifully rendered. Audrey - had a contest. She had put nearly 50 articles inside an egg shell and we were asked to name them. Ruth Wilson won this game. Marian L - was busy taking picture throughout the meet- ing and also gave a reading, "What is Christmas?" Aileen - read a poem, "Christmas is for Children" noting that we are all child- ren at Christmas time. Dora - read a Robert Ser- vice poem which was a take- off on "The Night Before Christmas' and also dis- played a beautiful Christ- mas Candle explaining ho it was made. : Ruth - read two poems, ~"'Little--Slippers--and-- "Christmastime". Lulu G. - told the true story of a little neighbour's Christ- mas tree and announced the PRINCE ALBERT AUTO BODY PRINCE ALBERT, ONT. - Phone 985-3311. Elizabeth - gave a reading "Christmas in the Country, Once Upon a Time'. Agnes Waters - told of their Christmas in Thailand in 1973. Margaret V. - gave high- lights of visit with the Romerils and his advice to "finish whatever we start'. Her poem was 'Thanks for Friends". Florence L. - told of Christ- mas when she was a child and some of the simpler activities of those happy days. Jean F. - spoke of the 'Advent Season and its sig- nificance using an Advent Wreath and posters made in past years in the Sunday School. She closed with a poem "A Lovely Light".
