FLAMINGOS. 7 FRANKFORD 4 The Flamingos travelled to Frankford on Friday night and played their best hockey in a month as they battled back from a 2-1 third period deficit to score six goals and earn a 7-4 win, which has been a difficult task for even the best teams in the league. Coach Wayne Redshaw, using two midgets for this contest, Phil. and Stu Coch- rane put them on a -line centred by Bill Newton and this trio completely domin- ated the third period and scored three goals. Phil Cochrane collecting two while Stue Cochrane had a single marker. Other goal scorers for the Flamingos were Willie Thornton, Doug - Christie, Scott Robinson and Bob Marquis. Wayne Cordingly played another of his outstanding games in goal, especially in the opening period when the Huskies threatened to put the game out of reach. LINDSAY 3 FLAMINGOS 2 The Lindsay "Muskies"' and the Flamingos hooked up in one of their typical "rough, hard skating" games which produced one of the best games of the season at the local Arena. Rob Ashenhurst then made it close with a power play goal mid-way through the period. The two clubs then battled ° back and forth till the four- teen minute mark of the final frame 'when Steve Richardson scored what turned out to be the winning goal, as Bob Marquis scored with 30 seconds left in the game but the Flamingos couldn't score the tieing goal in the few seconds remain- ing. team, as all the players skated hard and "hit" with some robust bodychecks. Play of this calibre should put the Flamingos back on the winning way as the play- offs approach. The Club travells to Port Hope on Thursday evening to play the Panthers and then host the Frankford "Huskies" on Sunday at 8 p.m. Atoms place second in Pt. Only Port scored in the next round which gave them the game by the score of 10 to 9. Brian Henricks was picked as the best Port player of the game having scored four goals. In the second game against Uxbridge, the Malmont gang started out strong and at the 3:15 mark Robbie Long scored unassisted and at the 5:35 mark, Mark Goreski scored assisted hy Jeff Johnstone and Steve Lee. This score stood up until the 7:35 mark of the second period when Ux- bridge closed the gap to make the score for Port, 2 to 1. With only 1:35 to go in the game, Uxbridge tied the score, and it looked like we were facing another shoot- out. In the final game of the tournament for the cham- pionship Port met the team from Port Hope and this was a real thriller right from the opening whistle, Port Hope opened the scoring at the 7:25 mark of the first period and this was the only scor- ing until the 5:25 mark of the second period when Chris Martens scored a lovely goal unassisted to tie the score at one each. The game should have ended at a score of one to one, but due to a mix-up by the timekeeper and referees, the last period was allowed to go 15 minutes rather than the 10 minutes that were signed for at the first of the game, and this allowed Port Hope to score the winning goal at the 13:10 mark while Port was short- handed.
