The local club now has 30 points in the: standings with six games remaining while the fourth place Stouffville "Clippers" have 28 points but hold a two games-in-hand advantage as they have eight games remaining to be played. The Bowmanville "Red Eagles" hold down fifth place with 25 points, The Flamingos have a de- cided edge in the schedule as they play four of the SPORT SHORTS Dean Morgan is expected to be out of the Flamingo line- up for at least another week with Tonsilitis. He missed the three games last week and his hard work at centre was missed by the Club. ~ Stan Kuzma, a six-foot four- inch defenseman has joined club and played quite e a in weekend games. He shbwed that he was willing to drop his gloves and fight on several occasions, and should be an asset in up- coming games. z The weekend action in the league: Bowmanville upset Lindsay 4-1 on Sunday even- ing and the "Red Eagles" also defeated "Frankford 54 on Friday night in Frank- ford. remaining six games at home, but this includes home and home series with the top two clubs, Lindsay "Muskies" and Cobourg "Cougars", FLAMINGOS 2 PORT HOPE 2 On Thursday evening, the 'Flamingos travelled to Port Hope and earned a single point in the standings with a 2-2 tie. Due to injuries, sickness and school exams, the team could ice only ten forwards for this contest but all the players gave a big effort and scored goals by Bernie Aldred and Willie Thornton while Barry Roy and Warren Sweeting replied for the Panthers. Ken Davidson returned to action in goal for the Flamingos and played a strong game making 38 saves while Jeff Gilmore had 28 for the Panthers. FLAMINGOS 4 STOUFFVILLE 4 In the battle for the all important third spot in league standings this was a "must" game for both Clubs and the Flamingos had to battle back from a 3-1 deficit to earn the tie. Scott Robin- son, Carlo Cammazzola and Phil and Stue Cochrane pro- vided the scoring for the local team with Ted Assinck notching a pair for the "Clippers". The Flamingos continue to receive great goaltending and this game was no excep- 'tion as Wayne. The Flamingos had lead 4-3 after the second period and the past few games at home the team has had trouble finding the scoring range in the late stages of the game, but they were not to be denied in this game as Scott Robinson, Bob Marquis, John Rane, Carlo Cammazzola, Gord Scott, Rob Ashenhurst, Wil- lie Thornton and Bill Newton "all 'scored single markers. The local Club was outshot 44-32 in the evenings action, but again received good goaltending from Ken Davidson. The Flamingos now enter home and home action with the Lindsay 'Muskies" on the weekend with a game on Friday night in Lindsay and the return contest at the local arena on Sunday night. Two weeks = ago, the "Muskies" handed the Fla- mingos a 3-2 setback in one of the best games of the season, so come early as a' large crowd is anticipated for this one. Intramural hockey In Intramural «Hockey this past week, Bob Elliott's team, led by captain Bob and Sean Taylor, defeated Randy Knight's team 4-2 with 2 goals in the last two minutes. : In the second game, Paul Litt's squad outlasted Gerry Lane's team 6-5. Carriere scored 2 for Paul Litt. Mke Tache played a strong game for Lane. VARSITY BASKETBALL The boys basketball team hosted Donevan on Tuesday of this week. The Junior boys dropped a very close decision 54-48. Leading scorer for Port was Phil Cochrane with 18 points. Colin Wackett and Ken Bry- ant gave Port outstanding defensive efforts.
