It was found out later that one Toronto station had their information mixed up, indicating that the fire that claimed three lives in Parry Sound on" Sunday, had happened here. Local fire- man Bill Harrison' tried to get through to the station to clear up the mistake, but was unable to do so. A rink skipped by local veterinarian Cam Mac Master won the Quinte Dis- trict Veterinarian Associ- ation Bonspiel held at Tweed, Ontario on January 10th. Curling with Cam were Helen MacMaster, vice skip, and Frank and Phyllis Codin of Lindsay as second and lead. 'This is the first time in four years they have competed in the 'spiel, that Cam's rink has won. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Clark of Colborne were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harrison. Record breaking temper- atures, some as low as minus 30 celcius, over the weekend left many motor- ists stranded with their hoods up in the air. It was not an uncommon sight anywhere on Sunday to see people walking with battery cables in their hands, tow trucks boosting cars and car owners bent over their motors trying to get their vehicles started. Although not knowing who they were, local resid- ent, Wayne DeJong, found out that their trip originated from the Blackstock area. If anyone knows more about the balloonists, please con- tact the Star. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Jef- frey were the "surprised" guests of honour at a 25th Anniversary party held at the Latcham Centre Satur- day night. Approximately 100 friends and relatives were on hand to greet the happy couple who had dined earlier in the evening .in Whitby with their children, Sylvia, Ron and Ken. They were presented a stereo, family money tree and numerous other gifts by those present, and the even- ing was rounded off with a dance. Last Thursday night's snowfall which dumped about 6 inches in the area was responsible for closing a number of the rural schools in the township. A long weekend for both students and teachers. The local theatre group "The Borelians" are holding a meeting tonight at the Town Hall to discuss the possibility of putting on a winter production. Time of meeting 8:00 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Jeffrey of Port Perry celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday evening at the Latcham Centre in Port Perry. Well over 100 relatives and friends attended the event. Raise the bridge...don't lower the water Who is Richard Drew? the Lindsay daily newspaper asked when a letter from the Scugog Chamber of Com- merce president was per- used by Lindsay city fathers at a Lindsay council meet- ing. : According to the Lindsay Post, council didn't know where the letter was from, and didn't know who the author was. "I don't know if they can't read or what the prob- lem is," said Mr. Drew last week. "The letter was written on chamber letter- head stationery." The chamber will attempt to make their iden- tity -- and point -- abundantly clear in a second letter to be sent soon. The chamber ------ -- ---- p-- -- -- --_--_p--_ p--_p-- wants the city to raise a foot bridge over the Scugog River to allow bigger, higher boats such as sailboats to be able to navigate the river. The bridge -is three feet lower that the Lindsay Bridge. The raising was one of a number of suggestions made > by the chamber in a letter to the Deputy of Indian and Indian and Northern Affairs who operate the Trent- Severn Waterway. The department inform- ed the chamber that the bridge was built and is own- ed and maintained by the City of Lindsay and would be the responsibility of the city to have it raised. The department has offered to get in touch with the appropriate city officers to find out if the department can be of assistance in solv- - ing the problem.
