The Wheels went to two tournaments have two play- off games under their blades at this writing. The first tournament was a double A group at George- town. The boys played their + first game on one of the worst nights of the winter and beat a strong George- town team 5-4 on goals by Bill Bridge with the hat trick Mark Lee with two and Stu Cochrane. That week was '"exam-week" and that coupled with another long drive through driving snow helped to slow the Wheels down. They seemed to have other things on their minds as Bramalea downed the Port team .104. Again Bill Bridge picked up a pair of goals while Phil Cochrane and Gord Hintze notched singles. The next weekend found the Toyota team in Bobcay- 'geon. Lakefield were the first opponents and proved to be a strong first-half team leading the Wheels 4-2 at the halfway point, out came Port Perry as usual, had a good second and third periods and took the win 7-4. A ra AO § A Wheels + Six consecutive wins for Mike McQuade and Phil Cochrane each had a pair while Evans, Griener and Cochrane counted singles, In game two the Wheels were facing Peterborough and again the Wheels start- ed slowly, with the first period ending in a 2-2 tie, But there the Peterborough team stayed as the Wheels banged in four unanswered goals to take a 6-2 win and a ticket into the Championship game against Long Branch. Phil Cochrane led the Wheels in game two with three goals and an assist followed by Bill Bridge with a goal and two assists. Rok Griener and Mark Lee each scored, unassisted. . The Championship was tight all the way through and the Wheels held on to take a 54 win with some excellent goaltending by Durward and Schwaga. The Wheels started their playoffs. on Wednesday against their old rivals from Uxbridge and Merle Schwaga had to come up with some extra movements to keep the boys from Ux- bridge off the score sheet. A fine effort Merle! Charlie Durward also played well after letting one shot 'get by .and so each goalie was responsible for one of the two goals that Uxbridge managed to score. The Wheels however whack- ed in six to take the first game. : Friday they went to Ux- bridge and although the opposition scored first, it was their only goal as the Wheels pounded Uxbridge 12-1. Phil Cochrane had a super night counting six goals and two assists followed by Gord Hintze who also counted 8 points with five goals and three assists. Steve Jones was the only other goal scorer with one and three assists. - Stuart Cochrane, who is one of the unsung heros and 'without: whom many of these goals would be impossible, counted eight super points - all- asSists. Well done Stu! Monday the Wheels play at home at 9:15 and on Tues. in Uxbridge and if they can keep on rolling they should wrap up the four out of seven series.
