2 Juveniles drop two games to Uxbridge In a playoff game played in Uxbridge Jan. 27 the Menzies' Motors Juveniles lost to Uxbridge in overtime 4-3. In the first period as was expected, Uxbridge came out skating, and bottled up the Port boys for two periods as they took a 3-0 lead. it wasn't until the latter stages of the third period that Port finally got on the scoresheet. Robert Kroonenberg scor- ed Port's first goal by his relentless checking and strong play, assisted by Colin Asselstine. This was the goal the Menzies' men needed, as they charged to the attack. Port put on re- lentless pressure as 'time was running out, scored 2 more goals, one by Don Tran, unassisted and the other by Randy Crawford assisted by Don Tran. and Larry Page to tie the game This sent the game into overtime. As the play went end to end both goalies came up with big saves, especially Charlie Durward, who kept Port in the game rough It was not Port's nigh Uxbridge scored the winning goal to salt the game away. This was Port's best effort of the series, In the second playoff game played at 'Port Perry, Ux- bridge came out winners again 5-3. This too was a well-played game. Uxbridge again came out flying and scored the first two goals. - Robert Kroonenberg again scored - Port's first ' goal assisted by Mike Adam. Ux- bridge scored to move ahead . 31. In the third period Port scored:--again as Kroonenberg made his pres- ence known with his second Robert - : goal of the game assisted by Randy Crawford and Glen McKean to bring the score to 4-3. As time was running. out Port pulled the goalie and put on great pressure to try and tie the game." Uxbridge finally put it out of reach as they scored into an empty _ net. Much interest has been generated with teams from Nestleton, Utica, Scugog Island, Port - Perry and other centres. Last Monday they defeat- ed Markham 6-1 and then beat Stouffville 6-5 Friday night. Both teams were two of the stronger teams in the league. Saturday they hosted - 'a team from Toronto and defeated them 3-1. After a scoreless first period Monday night Port built up. a 3-0 lead .in the second period on a goal by Phil Bower and two by Mike Farrell. Markham scored first in the third period but Port Perry came back with three goals in the last ten minutes to ensure the win. Mike Farrell scored his'third of the game and Scott Wallace and Todd Healey added the last two goals. On Saturday night Port Perry encountered strong goaltending 'but were still able to beat Toronto 3-1. Scoring for Port Perry was Mike Farrel, Sean Fewar and Dennis Gatchell. HOUSE LEAGUE HOCKEY CLUB ANNRENE 3 CONSUMERS GAS 2 In the first game Club Annrene defeated -Consum- ers Gas 3-2. Scoring for Club Annrene was David Page, Stephen Geer and Kevin Martens. Scoring for Consumers Gas was George Lindsay and Bill Hurst the only assist went to David Page. CARL THE BUTCHER 5 WAGGSTEXACO3 In the second game Carl the Butcher defeated Waggs Texaco 5-3. Scoring for Carls was Le- fort and Lane each getting two goals apiece. Rick Hope getting a lone marker. Jakeabson and MacIntyre getting one assist each. Scor- ing for Waggs was Knight, Beare and Nelson. Brian Hlozan picking up an assist. Each team picked up a goal after that to leave them tied. Utica scored twice in the first period with the first going to Ron Redman from Mike Mitchell and the second going to Don Card from Eric Bens and Brian Reader. Brians came back with two goals to tie it. Their first goal scored by Paul Christie from Ken Fraser. Paul Christie scored the second one, also from Bill Peters and Wayne Lown. Utica scored at 3:50 in the third by Don Card from Ron Redman and Gord Geer. Brians came back to tie with just 'six seconds left in the game, when Larry King scored from John Cooper _ and Ken Fraser. CAWKERS BUTCHERS 1 K.R. COULTER 1 Each team battled end to end with each team picking up only one gaol apiece. Each team kept the penalties down which kept the game close with two goals only scored. Both goals were - scored in the first period. Cawkers scored the first goal at 7:55 of the first period when Rob Evans slapped it in from Don Phinney. But Coutlers came back twe minutes later to tie it up when Steve Zaparozan scor- ed from Rick Best and Dale Hunter. This left the score the same for the entire game.
