Seven Association for the Mentally Retarded as it endeavours to" meet the needs of the retard- ed in our area of Brock, Uxbridge and Scugog Town- ships. 3 In recent years, due to the Oshawa and District Associ- ation's desire top serve the region retarded, students from our area have been using Oshawa facilities. This involves long journeys by bus away from the child's own community. f Two years ago, Central Seven approached the Board of Education with a proposal for an integrated classroom in the north of Durham Region. 'After careful con- sideration, a class of retard- ed children 'was integrated dnto the regular school sett- ing" in Prince Albert. Be- cause of the success of this class, we are now contacting the Advisory. Committee for the Board of Education in hopes that they will provide facilities for an integrated senior class in the north of Durham Region. Such a class would ensure that those students who are able may progress through an integrated program. A committee has been formed by Central Seven to develop plans for the institu- ting of -a sheltered workshop in the area by our associ- ation.
