We hear of all types of 'rip-offs' today, but who would have ever thought that they would rip you off, trying to be nice to your valentine. Grabbed the last heart-shaped box of chocolates off the shelf of a local store on Saturday and when | went to pay for it, found the cost over $7.00. Now | don't mind paying seven dollars for chocolates if | get $7.00 worth, but there were only 25 chocolates in the box. That works out to 27.8 cents for each chocolate, if you don't count in the packaging. The blame for the price is not with the retailer but with the manufacturer who is quickly getting rich off the sentimental male. Hadden The Annual Meeting of Lindsay Presbyterial United Church Women was held in Beaverton United Church on Thursday, January 29, 1976 convening at 10:00 a.m. with Mrs. B. Roeske, Burnt River President, in the chair. Mrs. M. Jebson, Beaver- ton, graciously welcomed the ladies and Mrs. Roeske_ thanked the ladies for their kind co-operation during the past two years. . The minutes of the Annual Meeting of 1975 were read by Mrs. D. Wellman, Omemee in the absence of the secretary. The roll call was read. Mrs. J. Coborn, Fenelon Falls, Presbyterial Treasur- er, presented the Financial Report. Mrs. R.B. Harrison, Cann- -ington, invited the ladies to Cannington next year for the Annual Meeting. Mrs. Wm. English, Canning, introduced the morning speaker, Mrs. W.H. ~ John, Lindsay, wife of Rev. W. H. John, Assistant Minister of Cambridge Unit- ed Church. Mrs. John has been a nurse in Nursing Homes for many years and has a wealth of experience in working with Senior Citi- zens. Her topic was Aging". Mrs. John said in keeping with the theme "A candle shows light whether short or long. When . we grow older we just show light in a different way". In our modern society when many are retired at age 65, with motivation gone, many lose their sense of worth. We must plan. well ahead for this time of life so we can remotivate, seek a new iden- tity. She also dealt with physical aging in a sympathetic manner. Mrs. Roeske thanked Mrs. John for her timely and helpful address. Mrs. Wm. Jackson, Rea- boro, presented the Liter- ature and Books and invited us to the Literature Table at the noon hour. A beautiful "In Memor- iam Service' was conducted by Mrs. S. Brown, Brechin, who read "Waiting in Another Room'. She was assisted by Mrs. T. Burtch, Brechin, who read from Colossians 3: 1-5.
