Later in the first period Jim Aldred scor- Kevin Ausman. Early in the second Greg Carriere put the score to a close 2-1. Peels grabbed back . their two goal lead on Kevin Ausman's goal from Carl Durward. Ballards replied with a final goal by Brad Hurst to end the game at 3-2. COCHRANE'S 6 EMMERSON'S 3 The first period went scoreless. Then at the .22 mark of the second period John Hadley scored from Ryan Appleton of Cochranes. This scoring combo came again one minute later to put Cochranes out front 2-0. Em- mersons scored a couple of minutes later to make it 2-1 on a goal by John MacLeod from Scott Heard. Early in the third period Warren Nicholishen scored to make it 2-2. John MacLeod from Rob Scott to make it 3-2, then Cochranes scored four goals; John Hadley with two more. Dwayne Freeman and Greg Kroonenberg with one each. Pete Bateman, Greg Kroon enberg and Ian Griffen each had an assist. BOLTON 7 FRANK 1 Frank opened the scoring House League Hockey | on Andy Czilak's goal trom Joey Williams. Then Bolt- on's Kevin Long scored six straight goals - to lead Bolton's big win. Paul Van- Camp also scored one. Kevin Breen and Paul VanCamp each 'had an assist. WES LANE 4 GLEN VALLIE 4 Wes Lane's goals were scored by Joe Treen, Tim Bouwmeester, Simon Brier- ly and John Butler. Grant Vizely and Simon Brierley had assists. Glen Vallie tallied on two goals from Rob Cook and two from Bruce Young. Rob Cook and Bruce Young each had an assist. . On Monday night the two clubs played one of the most exciting and emotional games in recent years, as the Cougars edged the Flamin- gos 5-4 in the third overtime period. - The Cougars jumped into an early 2-0 lead but the Flamingos battled back and took a 4-2 lead in the second period. A rash of penalties proved fatal for the local club as the Cougars scored two power-play goals and sent the game into overtime. before the league leading scorer "notched" the winner on a break-away as the Flamingos were caught on a player change. The large crowd in atten- dance loudly applauded both teams at the finish. The coaching staff and team officials and fans in atten- dance were extremely proud of the team as they never stopped skating and check- ing and gave a hundred percent effort. FLAMINGOS 7 COUGARS 2 The Flamingos started Sunday nights game at the local arena trailing in the series 2-1 in games and facing an impossible deficit if they were to loose at home. The Cougars opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Mike Ryan, but before the period had ended the: Flamingos had battled ~ back to take a 3-1 lead on goals by Carlo Cammazzola, Bob 'Marquis and Doug Christie on one of his "powerful" slapshots from the right wing. The two teams played a "scoreless second period before the Flamingos blew it wide open with goals by Bill Newton, while Marquis, Christie and Cammazzola 'each got there second of the night. Goaltender Ken Davidson played another of his superb games in goal and aided by the hard working defensive unit of Robert Van- Camp, Jamie Malcolm, Rob Ashenhurst and John Kane, they continued to hold off the high scoring Cougars . The fifth game in" the series was played in Cobourg on Monday with the sixth game slated for Port Perry on Sunday, Feb. 29 at 8:30 The largest crowd of the season, over five hundred, were treated to a. great hockey game last week and the action should continue to the completion of the series. Sue Gribben wins gold medal at Winter Games Seventeen-year-old Sue Gribben has added another award on a long list of national and international trophies, medals, and awards when she captured the top slot in her class at the Ontario Winter Games in Sault Ste. Marie a week ago. The weekend competition saw Judo competitors from 10 regions in Ontario com- pete. Miss Gribben won all of her 10 bouts to win the gold medal. Wins of this size and scale are nothing new for Sue. She won the All Canadian competition last year and "has won international com- petitions as well. She's looking forward: to' the Women's Canadian Championships this-year in Montral. But Sue's overall aim won't be realised until 1980, when Olympic Judo will open a class for women for the first time. She'll compete...and then retire.
