Third victory over Bancroft By Darrin Jobb The Beare Motor Bantams moved closer to the All- Ontario finals last Wednes- day, the 25th, by beating out Bancroft three straight. The third game in Port turned out to be the clincher in a 3-1 victory. George Burnett tallied for In Case Of FIRE Phone Scugog Fire Dept. No.1 985-2345 Fire Dept. No.2 986-4234 the first two goals assisted by Mike Geer. Bancroft narrowed the score 2-1 late in the second, but Dennis Franssen put the game out of Reaci: on a big wrist shot, assisted by Darrin Jobb. Now that Port has defeat- ed Bancroft, they have gone on to play Schomberg, the defending Bantam "C" champs. This was one of the best games Port has come up with all year. Some fine goaltending at both ends of the rink kept the score down respectively. Schomberg took an early lead in the first period and kept it until the third. George Burnett scored to tie it up, assisted by Dennis Franssen. Five minutes later, Schomberg again jumped into the lead on a tricky goal. that fooled goaltender Ray Gibson. The puck was shot from the point and was just wide. The rebound then came out on the other side of the net where a Schomberg player promptly scored. Chas. Brown had a good chance to tie it up on a penalty shot. The Schom- berg goalie made the best save of his life as he kicked out a powerful wrist shot. This game was without the services of Billy Owen, the Big Defenseman, who has led the club since the start of the playoffs. The final score of this game was 2-1 for Schom- berg. Next home game is Wednesday, March 3rd at 9:15 p.m. By Andrea Jones In the third game against Brighton, the Wheels kept their cool amazingly well and won in fine style, 6-1. - It was Stu Cochrane from Hintze and Phil Cochrane leading off at 1:46 of the first period. And minutes later, Bill Haynes set up became more frustrated. Bill Haynes who was hust- ling all night, scored no. 6, assisted by Bill Bridge. The third period could have been a disaster if the Wheels had retaliated to the elbows and invitations to fight. On one occasion, Bill Haynes curled up on the ice as Wayne one game of their quarter- finals in the history books as the paper comes out. As the clock ticked on and the score mounted, Brighton ed a major for fighting while Haynes had a two minute minor for roughing (and he certainly did get roughed).
