ANCE AN 3 3 Te EE nN el 26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, March 3, 1976 A FA AT LFRRL pe inet Pap Scugog Island News By Mrs. Earl Reader We are sorry to report that John Beckett had to go back to Sunnybrook Hospital for further care. Next Sunday night, there will be an Official Board meeting at 8 p.m. in Grace Church. Officials on Boards of Scugog Island and Man- chester, please try to attend. The Island Cubs and Scouts with their leaders are hard at work and have now planned a dance for Sat., March 13 at Club Annrene.. Please contact the leaders for tickets. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Reader returned from Florida after a week's vacation around Miami. Mrs. Lil Moore has also returned after a lengthy vacation in the south with her friend from Greenbank. The *"Head" U.C.W. will meet tonight at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Stich- mann have also returned after a month's vacation in Florida. Soon all ourfriénds will be back and ready for Spring activities. Though Thursday evening gave us good weather, it seemed an unfortunate evening for meetings. The sank fi welcomed only nine, with two leaders from town, who came to explain the plans for the new com- munity arena. The few canvassers, who were pre- sent, feel they are now pre- pared to go forth and spread the enthusiasm that was displayed and help in this community project that has required hours and thought in consideration of finances, building, necessities and use for the future population. So please be prepared to talk this over with your can- vasser who will call within Mrs. Marilyn Tripp. two weeks, and plan what you can do to help with the finances. On Sunday, Rev. Wylie took the service at "Grace" Church. The lovely flowers on the Communion table were placed in memory of the recently deceased, Reubin Brekke. Some of the S.S. children seem to be losing interest during the mid term. Please remember. those who attend regularly need your support. Mr. Wylie's story referred to sports and especially the seasonal hockey. He told of a well-known referee who made a decision, possibly a mistake, that was disputed by others. He had become discouraged and had not refereed again. We all make mistakes. However, it .is up to us to be good sports and abide by decisions. ~~ Scugog Chamber gets involved "Last year when I became president of the Chamber of Commerce, | said that we should get more involved in civic affairs and this is just what we have done," Richard Drew - told the members of the organization Discuss fee recovery A system that would recover the legal costs of processing development agreémerts is being con- sidered by the Region of - Durham, and if implement- ed, could cost developers up to $600. Regional management committee last week en- dorsed a recommendation that, if approved, will allow the solicitor's department to charge for the preparation and processing of such agreements. . Regional solicitor, S. K. Jain, offered the committee three alternatives for the charge ranging from fixed amounts for certain kinds of agreements to a $500 flat rate for all, Mr. Jain pointed out that a survey he conducted with other municipalities showed that applicants expected to pay such charges. The management commit- tee recommendation to council will ask approval for the following charges. Con- dominium agreements $250; agreements regarding land severances by the consent of the land division committee or otherwise, $250.; servic- ing and site plan agree- ments, $350.; engineering agreements, $450,; subdivis- at its General Meeting last Wednesday. As well as civic affairs, the Chamber held their annual Santa Claus Parade in December and their popular Western Weekend which gave them well over $6,000 profit. - The Scugog Chamber of Commerce has 11 directors finishing the last of a two year term, with Bill English, Cliff Crowell, Dave Brown and Greg Heffering being elected to begin a two-year term. ions, $600.
