That isn't our fault." The local businessman said that pressure should be applied from all sources to get action from the pro- vince. He urged the Scugog Chamber of Commerce to "go after M:P.P. Bill New- man to come up with the monies and help." WHAT REPORT?? Durham Region works department engineering ser- vices manager, Jerry Craw- ford said he was unaware of any previous report by the ministry of the assimilative capacity of Nonquon at the 5,000 to 10,000 figure quoted by Ted Griffen. He said, - instead, that the specifi- "cations they have on file stipulate a more conserv- ative set of figures; 4,000 population under the exist- ing system, and up to 5,000 with a few minor changes (addition of chemicals, etc). Furthermore, he said he didn't know if the assimil- ated capacity of the Non- quon was even included in the report. A spokesman at the min- istry, however, said the 5,000 top limit was correct, but that the nature of the system was altered and reflected in a lowering of the capacity. He said it was initially de- signated to handle 'continu- ous discharge into the Non- quon River, a system that could handle up to 5,000 population. Due to locally-initiated environmental concerns, he said, the system was chang- ed from continuous dis- charge to seasonal dis- charge (no dumping is done in the summer). And that, he said, limits the amount of treatment refuse the river can handle. For Photograph REPRINTS From the Port Perry. Star Phone 985-7383 ~ OSHAWA 133 TAUNTON RD.
