Ld & Wheels lead exciting semifinal By Andrea Jones Perhaps the distance bet- ween Mitchell and Port Perry is the deciding factor in this semi-final series, since the home team has won on each occasion; ---- The Toyota Wheels lost 'game one in Mitchell by the -~ in the second period and" score of 8-5 and sloppy and slow. The Wheels came out fast and scored two quick goals but then they relaxed and looked . allowed Mitchell to tie it up. Port: put on a spurt and Bridge put the team in front again, but again, the Wheels failed to come back with the play while Mitchell scored three times, Durward wasn't sharp but he stood alone on many occasions. Merle Schewaga came in, made some good saves, but he, too, allowed a couple of goals and one deadly drive + forced him to the bench and Durward returned to: the nets to-finish the game. The team looked sharper in the final half of the game, but by then it was. too late. Scoring from Port Perry Phil Cochrane with two, Mark Lee, Bill Bridge and Rob Evans with singles, The second game was the exact opposite from game one. Although Mitchell scored first, the Wheels found the target four times inthe first period. Rob Evans started them off with a back hand shot and then Phil Cochrane did the per: fect hat trick, three in a row. -And just for good measure he started out the second period . with. another one. Rob Griener added one right off the face-off, Hintze tip- ped in a /shot and Evans lifted one over the downed Mitchell goalie to make the. score 8-1. The Wheels began to take it easy as the game went on and MitchelFtapitalized on some sloppy plays adding two at the end of the middle period. SUE RgpEaNe was hot and ive was a delayed . action as the puck fell from the goalies pads and trickled in, Mitchell scored a power play goal and had a lucky tip-in for their fifth goal.
