Mrs.Norma Crowell spoke on the Motto and quoted from the Scout's Motto 'Be Prepared'. The minutes. were read and the treasurers report given: Our treasurer ex- plained what we did with our pennies for friendship. The ideas of "pennies for friendship" originated from a dream Mrs. Godfrey Drage had, She was Finance Chair- man of the A.C.W.W. (Associated Country Wonien | of the World) and _was worried about: the finances when she dreamt she saw piles of pennies falling from everywhere. She awoke with ~ the idea that if every individ- ual member contributed a penny a year, this, in addi- tion to the dues paid by Societies, would be the * answer to her problems. Associated Couritry Women of the World is the inter- national organization of the Women's Institutes and . other similar organizations with .common aims and objects. A.C.W.W. member societies pay annual dues, at" a low rate, and individuals - belong as Life or Contribut- ing Members. But the fact remains that three quarters of the cost of running - A.C.W:W. comes from "Pennies for Friendship" to "which all ACW.W. mem- bers contribute, It is "Pennies for Friendship" which made the work of all the committees possible. So when we, at our meetings, take up collection and will- ingly add the extra pennies from our purse, we are build- ing a better world, a practic- . al way of taking a personal .part in working for peace and happiness of people everywhere - a need which grows greater every day.
