City Broomball Tournament Saturday, April 10 where 32° teams competed for Consol- ation and Championship. The Butchers lost their first game 4-1 but came out + on top for Consolation Winners with scores of 1-0, 3-0, 1-0, 3-0. Scoring for the Butchers were Ron Redman with 3 goals, Dan Taylor and Don * Phinney each with two and Jay Williams and Larry Elson scoring one a piece. In Phys Ed class we have started physical fitness test- ing for Grades 5; 6, 7 and 8. This week we are recording .results for the 50 and 300 yard run. Every morning at 8:00, "our gym and halls are fi with eager students py ing for upcoming c petit. ions in gymnastics. During the week of April 12-16, 'the R. H. Cornish Gymnastic competition will be held. Students' from the ; junior and 'intermediate levels are urged to enter in the following events: com- pulsory floor, balance beam and optional floor. Ribbons will be awarded to the top... -six-in each catagory and "these girls will répresent the school in the D.E.T.A. com- petition. Level testing will be done - with all grade levels to assess gymnastics skills acquired in class. Thanks to Mr. Ruttledge and the teachers who helped him-in constructing hurdles for our school. The track team are using them every day at 8:00 - 8:50 in the morning or at noon hour. "A keen interest is shown in this area. : The grade 6 girls basket- ball is steadily working on skills to prepare for next year. = The Grade 7 boy's basket- ball team should feel extre- mely proud of the calibre of play they showed Sat day. The boys matche with Whitby Senior in their first game of the day and defeated them by a score of 22-14. Congratulations goes out' to Cam Muir who appeared to be so "high" after the game that he was sent to the hospital for four stitches in his head (they'll just have to make the doors around here higher). In the second game, R. H. Cornish encountered J. Gould from Uxbridge. Cprnish Science Fair-had a gréat number of entries this year. Very neat attractive and well organ- ® ized projects verified the amount of work put into 'their completion, All stud- ents who participated in'this competition should be com- mended. The following six were chosen as winners of our school: Mary McKel-- vey; Claudia red Vion: ton Jammer; Ted Wilson; @ Ronnie Hodgins and Laural- Holthy. SCIENCE FAIR Six of our intermediate students went to Henry Street High School in Whitby" for the Durham Region Science Fair on Thursday and Friday. All- students participated very well, and #& we are quite proud of them. Three of our students took places in the Junior Biology Division: 3rd - Mary Mec- Kelvey (Hydrophonics); 4th - Clinton Jammer (Game Fish of Canada); :5th - Claudia acter (Medi- cinal Herbs). - Congratulations! Softball team In anticipation of an early summer, -the Port Perry Ballard Lumber Intermedi- ate Softball team is starting » to get ready for the coming season. A conditioning pro- gram will be conducted in the gym at R. H. Cornish Public School to prepare the players in advance of taking to the field in May.
