The week of learning was on dyeing and colour planning for orientals. Mr. Peter Atkinson of Brampton was at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Atkinson on Sunday. Sorry to report Mrs. Ida Dempsey is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. On Saturday May 8th, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Asselstine and Teresa attended , Sir Sandford Fleming College Convocation, Peterborough, to see their daughter-in-law, Marlene (Bray) Asselstine receive her legal Secretarial Certificate. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dow- son of Port Elgin spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thompson. Mr. and. Mrs. Wallace Marlow and Mr. and Mrs. Harry VanCamp visited their brother, Mr. R.H. Heaslip, in Sunnybrook Hospital on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cobbledick of Leamington are spending a few days with Mrs. Gladys Thompson 'Recently Howard Bailey, Brad Guernsey, and David Mason along with 23 others were confirmed in the Angli- can Church in Port Perry. The Rt. Rev. Allan Read, 'Bishop of Toronto was pres- ent to bestow this honour at that occasion. During the reception in the Parish Hall after the boys to be his guest in Toronto to learn how to become Servers in their own Church. This past weekend Howard = Bailey, Brad Guernsey and David Mason joined 32 other newly con- firmed boys from other Churches surrounding and in Toronto. These boys and the Bishop visited Allan Gardens, viewed a film, swam in Toronto University indoor pool in the nude, visited St. John's Convales- cent Hospital and enjoyed supper there with the Sisters of St. John the Divine on Saturday! evening. They all slept in sleeping bags in the Parish Hall of St. Paul's the - Confirmation | . Service the Bishop invited Anglican Cathedral. They worshipped there and took lessons in how to become a Server. They were extreme- ly impressed with the enormous pipe. organ and fine' organist. These boys will now be assisting Rev. Rose in the services here in Blackstock. They all report an interesting, worthwhile and enjoyable trip. The Afternoon Unit UCW held its April meeting at the home of Mrs. Russel Larmer with 12 members and 3 visitors present. Miss Dorothy Bulmer, Deaconess of Nestleton Presbyterian Church was guest speaker. She showed slides of her work in Nigeria where she went in 1959 and spent 6 years. Her work was mainly with Young People - the Christian Girls Club - and the Missionaries spent time and effort teaching the Nig- erians' to be leaders for: these girls clubs. She told many interesting stories of the life of the people - their way of. living - their prob- lems and their joys. The meeting was over before we knew it and was most inter- esting to all, Our May meeting was held at the home of Marion Larmer .with 15 members present. Jean Ferguson had an interesting devotional on 'Friendship'. A crib quilt has been embroidered and . quilted by the ladies for the Fair Booth and was there for all to see.
