Mus., RM.T. Letter to the Editor The Editor: Iam writing in response to the columns by John Mack which have appeared in the last two editions of the Port Perry Star. Although it is unfair to judge only two attempts, I am not favour- ably impressed by the under- lying theme of violence, sprinkled with crude wit. If this is a valid indication of what will appear in the weeks to follow, I do not belive John Mack's writing is worthy of inclusion in our "hometown newspaper". Yours truly, M.C. Jamieson Brooklin 4-H Beef Club - On. June 28th, the South Ontario 4-H Beef Club enjoy- ed games and refreshments at the home of Mr. Paul Ruth to celebrate the beginning of his new career. Our meeting on July 19th at the farm of Mr. Prouse - RR 5 Lindsay, was highlight- ed with a baseball game .in "which nobody but the mos- quitoes counted score. After the game Mrs. Prouse invit- ed us to the house for the lesson part of the meeting. The meeting was called to * order and the roll call was taken. Under new business we discussed the prospect of entering our calves in the open class at Port Perry Fair on Labour Day week- end. Under old: business we found that we will have to get moving on our ideas for the club exhibit and demonstra- tion. At this meeting Mr. Bruce Gibson gave a lesson on "Common Diseases and Parasites of Cattle', This topic involved what the dis- eases are caused from, the symptoms of the diseases, the damage it does to your herd and control of the diseases. Some types of diseases the lesson.mention- ed are: Pneumonia, Foot Rot, Black Leg, Warts, Ring- worm and half a dozen diffe- rent kinds of flies. After the quiz, hotdogs and freshie were served by the hosts, which everyone en- joyed. . = The next meeting of: the South Ontario 4-H Beef Club is on August 9th at Mr. - Richardson's Farm in Ash- burn. Hope to see you there for a lesson on "clipping cattle and a showmanship demonstration'.
