Peter Ruddell, his wife and family worshipping at Burns Church last Sunday mor- ning. The Ruddells are from Brandon, Manitoba. During the service, Miss Chrissie Simpson and Rev. McEntyre sang a very lovely and meaningful duet, "Make me a Channel of your Peace". Mr. McEntyre will be on holidays for the next four Sundays. Next Sunday and the last two Sundays of August the services will be taken by Mr. Brian Ruttan of Toronto who will also sing for us. And on the 15th of August, the service will be takemrby Rev. Ken Heron. At this service, Ken and son Jordan, will be singing. Services at the usual hour of 11:15, and church school at 10 a.m. - Mrs. Dave Howlett of Cal- gary, who many will remem- ber as Helen Walker, visited with Misses Hilda and Mary 'and Mr, Walter Hopkins last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Howlett and three children _ are camping at Harold Walker's for awhile. Misses Hilda and Mary Hopkins attended the 80th birthday party of Mrs. Pearl Perry, held at her daughter's "home, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clodd of Prince Albert. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ashton spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Don Purdy of Orangeville. Mrs. Bruce Lehman and daughter Diane returned home on Saturday from their trip to visit relatives in Saskatchewan. Julie GEORGE W. SAMELLS A resident of the Scugog area all his life; George Wesley Samells, died -sud- denly at his cottage at Gerrow's Beach, Scugog Is- land, on Wednesday, July 28, 1976. He was 74 years of age. Born on a farm near Cae- sarea, November 25, 1901, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Samells. He received his education in Caesarea and in 1919 his family moved to a Scugog Island farm. He was married in 1927 to the former Alpha Crosier of Manchester. -In1949, he sold. his farm .. and moved to his Lilla Street home in Port Perry. He worked many years as a hardware clerk, retiring about 10 years ago. He enjoyed meeting people and made a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. In 1958, he purchased cot- tage property on Scugog at Gerrow's Beach, and built two cottages there where he enjoyed many happy hours with his family. A member of Port Perry United Church at the time of his death, Mr. Samells was active in the churches in all three communities where he lived, serving as steward, elder and choir member for 'many years. In the 1930's, the late George Samells was school trustee for S.S. 2 Scugog, and ten years later was elected councillor for Scugog Township. While farming on Scugog, OBITUARY -- remained with her aunt for the rest of the summer. Thought...If a man has énough horse sense to treat his wife like a thoroughbred, she will never turn into an old nag. Mr. Samells took an interest in sports, playing on men's football teams. In his retire- ment, he with his wife, en- joyed tours to various parts of the world. Active in Oddfellowship, he was a member of Warr- iner Lodge 75 for 32 years and of Maybelle Rebekah Lodge No. 348 for 28 years. For the past several years, he was a member of the Historical Society Choir. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Earl Bailey (Jean); Mrs. Bruce; Mackey - (Donna); seven grandchildren, John, David, Craig, Todd, Robert, Lynn, and. Scott, all of 'Oshawa; one sister, Mrs. Stanley: Ploughman (Flossie) of Port Perry. He was predeceased by a brother Charles. Mr. Samells rested at the McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home and service was held on Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m. Interment was in Pie Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Rev. Stuart McEntyre of St. John's Presbyterian Church offici- ated. Pallbearers were W. George Samells, Roger Hope, John Beckett, all of Scugog Island; William McCabe of Toronto; Peter Crosier and Kim Crosier of Ottawa; all nephews of the deceased. Flower bearers, all long-time friends of Mr. Samells were Orr Jeffrey, Aylmer Ploughman, William Mark, all of Port Perry; Clarke Williams and Kenneth Samells, both of Blackstock; Ralph Milner of Brooklin. suggestions!
