The Sunday Jamboree will feature Carl Leitch and the Hayloft Ramblers, a group that has had more than a little success at prior perfor- mances at Town Hall 1873. Although their first perfor- mance here was modestly received by local audiences, word seemed to have gotten around and by the time their second performance, people had to be turned away at the door. Town Hall 1873's activities had to be curbed somewhat due to the reconstruction of Lilla Street that has made parking almost impossible near the Town Hall. A summer theatre pro- gram had to be cancelled, and the town hall committee seems to be treading lightly as far as major events is concerned. The Jamboree, however, has all the indications of becoming a very popular "regular" attraction, and it is hoped that the event will be a successful part of the Western Weekend festivities. continued moves right to the heart of the event--in the mall in from of 'the post office. There will be more of the same kind of things as last year, such as egg-catching, melon-seed spitting, plate spinning, and more. There's an event or two that won't be announced until the competition--presumably to keep the chicken-hearted from chickening out. " Friday is the day local merchants move their busi- ness onto the street, a home- run derby will be held at the ball park, and a kiddies parade will be held in the morning. In the evening, three dances will provide enter- tainment, no matter what your taste in music. There will be a teen dance at the Latcham Centre, a street square dance, and the ever- popular graffiti dance at the arena. New on the Saturday line- up this year is a mutt show, with prizes going to the biggest, skinniest, and most other categories you can think of. * Saturday will be the start of a two-day round robin tennis tournament at the Palmer Park courts. Ad- vance registrations is a must. for this event. Following the power boat races Saturday afternoon, the popular barbeque at the park will be held again this year. followed by a dance in the evening featuring the music of Little Caesar and the Consuls. Sunday, the last day of activities, will see the Join the fun second canoe race of the year when the Scugog His- torical Society stages "'Scugog Ho", an event that will hopefully be as success- ful as the Canoe the Non- quon race held earlier. in the year. : The finals of the Home Run Derby will be held in the afternoon. New to get into the West- ern Weekend effort is the Town Hall 1873 Committee. A Western show at the Old Town Hall will be featured Sunday evening. According to Mr. Drew, a greater number of booths and exhibits this year has resulted in the decision to put booths back to back along the centre of the mall area instead of along the sides. More planters, larger trees and a greater general effort than ever is expected to transform the usual bus- iness-like downtown to a thriving festival atmosphere.
