Sincere sympathy is ex- tended to the families and relatives of the late Mrs. Catherine Cawker of Epsom and the late Mr. Herb Hill of Uxbridge in their recent ber- eavement. We hope for a speedy recovery for -Mr. Dennis Thompson who is hospitaliz- ed in Port Perry Community Hospital with a broken pelvis - caused by an accident with his lawnmower. Mr. and Mrs. John Begin (nee Darlene Christie) graciously entertained their family at a dinner in Utica Memory Hall at noon on Saturday. Later in the after noon they welcomed many of their relatives and friends at their home in Epsom and in the evening they hosted a dance in the hall for other friends. Much happiness is wished for Darlene and John. We welcome new residents to the village: Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hooker of Kinsale to, the former Armstrong home; Mr. and Mrs. Combdon of Ajax to the former Elson home; Mr. and Mrs. Wees of Oshawa to the former Mole home; and Mrs. and Mrs. Rick Kennedy of Stouffville who are living west of Utica. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Geer spent Thursday and Friday at the Bill Brown's cottage at Haliburton. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Geer and Mrs. Bob Slack and Darryl were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Geer. On Saturday evening the Baileys and Mrs. Forsythe called on Mrs. Ethel Kidd of Goodwood. Mr. and Mrs. Don Sutcliffe of Janetville visited his par- ents on Sunday. Recent visitors with Mrs. James E. Mitchell were Mrs. Lloyd Harrison, Mrs. Gary Mahoney and Karen and Mrs. Bill Mitchell of Port Perry, and Mr. and Mrs. Ern Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. Len Pilkey of Uxbridge. Congratulations and best wishes to Miss Hazel Balfour who recently celebrated her eighty-second birthday and to Mr. A. MacDonald who was 93 years old on August 6. Keep in mind and plan to attend the special Epsom Centennial events at Epsom on August 27,28 and 29. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ford had lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ballard on Friday. Again this past week it has been mostly sunny with lots of activities to keep us busy. First thing Tuesday morn- ing we went on a treasure hunt. Our treasure turned out to be a great big water- melon which disappeared very quickly. Later in the afternoon we went for a refreshing swim. On Wednesday, we went down to the lake to watch the setting up of the rides for the Western Weekend. Later, everyone drew some really nice pictures. Thursday was Pirate Day and everyone had on really great costumes. Like true pirates we went on a treas- ure hunt. We didn't find much gold but we did find something else which every- one enjoyed. Friday, the Western Weekend and we all walked downtown to watch it. By the time that you read this it will be almost time for the Penny - Carnival which will be held at the arena at 4:30 on August 12. There will be a parade just before this , down Queen Street. So come and join the fun. Tuesday we walked to the recreation centre and saw arfother play. The play, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was reglly enjoyed by the children. Wednesday we spent the day visiting VanCamp's farm. We saw such animals as cows, rabbits, gerbels, horses and sheep. Thursday, we all came over to Port Perry by bus and went swimming at Birdseye. The weather was a bit cool and wet but every- one enjoyed themselves. We would like to thank Heather, Vicky and Mrs. Swain for coming with us and helping. Friday, we all went on a hunt for a huge egg.
