Ashburn news By Mr. R. Heron The first W M.S. meeting of the Ashburn group was held on Wednesday evening, September 1st for the fall season, in the church par- lour. Mrs. F. Daw, presid- ent, conducted the meeting' and gave the opening devot- ions. Mrs. R. Batten led in prayer.. The study for the evening was taken from the Glad' Tidings, "A Plea .for Justice". Tt was led by the president and all members participated. The hostesses for the even- ing were Mrs. W. Routley and Miss Eileen Hamill who served a lovely lunch. The next meeting will be in the form of a thank offering meeting in the church the first Wednesday evening in October, | It was good to have Rev. McEntyre back on Sunday morning. He conducted the service 'and took his text from James 2, "Faith at Work", £ Mrs, Fred Daw sang a solo, 'He Included Me', and Mr. Arnold Ashton presid at the organ. ¢ Don't forget next Sunday will be Rally Day, with the Church School assisting with the morning worship. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Gibson and sons, Douglas and Mark, spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. R. Batten recently. Miss Rose Mary Steven- son, who has been working for Mrs. F. Gardener and living with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw has: returned to her home in England. Mr. and Mrs, Donald Purdy of Orangeville visited with Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton over the weekend. The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mr. and Mrs. W. Hopkins in the death of Mrs. Hopkins' aunt., the late Mrs, Bertha Adams of Edmonton, also the death of a cousin, Mr. Wesley James of Toronto, who was killed in a plane crash in northern Ontario last week. . § Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mar- coni were callers one day last week with Misses Mary & Hilda Hopkins and Mr. Walter Hopkins. } Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Matthews on the birth of a baby son, a brother for Richard. Mr. and Mrs. E. Heron spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Drew Leaper of London and called to see Mrs. Sparks at Guelph on the way home. Mr. Ronald Ashton left this week to attend University in Guelph. Miss Heather Rich- ardson will also be attending Guelph University. In fact, several of our young people in the area will be going off to University this year. Miss Judy Godda will be going to school in Sault Ste. Marie and living with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Huntley.
