Lay {30 \ 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1976 Busy season for Town Hall 1873 (continued Also in the series is a December 26th appearance of the well-known 48th High- landers Band. The 31- member band just finished a regular engagement at Toronto's National Exhibi- tion. : Last of the series will be on January 21st when concert pianist Raymond Dudley will appear here. A native of Bowmanville, the pianist' is known from coast to coast as well as inter- nationally. "It's a real coup, that we've been able to get this man," said Mrs. Hastings. "This will be a side stop for him on his way to a perform- ance at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa." Also in the initial stages is a proposed light theatre group and a children's theatre performance. As well as one or two performances by the local theatre group, the Borelians there will be the three-day running of H.M.S. Pinafore, a Gilbert and Sullivan musical directed by Mrs. Hastings that has been in the making since early this year. Perhaps more than any- thing else, the Pinafore group gives evidence to the growing influence and success of the Old Town Hall. The cast of Pinafore hopes the December 2, 3, and 4th show won't be a one-shot deal, as the group plans to stay together for future per- formances. Although more musically- oriented than straight theatre, the group will widen local horizens as far as the performing arts are con- cerned, adding to that provided by The Borelians. The Town Hall was the catalyst that gave local theatre--and The Borelians a much-needed boost, say organizers. With the second Pinafore group to be estab- lished, it looks like Town Hall's influence is still work- ing. Keeping the something-for all promise, organizers plan another Country Jamboree in October. No date has been set, but the series of past shows have proven very successful. October will also see the start of a series of films. 'You would be surprised what there is right here in the way of talent," said Mrs. Hastings. "There certainly is enough to"hold a successful show like this." Another '"talent' show is planned for next spring as well. A November performance by the Historical Society Choir has been cancelled, but it is hoped that it can be rescheduled for early spring possibly April. It is also hoped that Port Perry High School students will again undertake a Christmas show for young people. Last year's presen- tation by the music and drama people at the school proved an overwhelming success. The Hall will also ring in 1977 with a gala New Year's Eve Ball. Professional Theatre Professional theatre will come to Town Hall 1873 on February 10th, when the Toronto-based NDWT . Company visits Port Perry to present Baldoon, a mystery play based on the experiences of a Canadian - family. Town Hall Committee is trying for an Ontario Arts Council grant to offset the costs of the professional theatre and professional music series. Cost of the theatre group alone is $1,500. Also in the works but with- "out dates or confirmation are such things as hobby shows, dances, theatre and music workshops for young people, as well as a '"sing-in."'
