20 PORT PERRY STAR -- WED. SEAN .£ Ten» Wr I Lm SRE try SUS AE ETE LAR Re FAR al IRN) ay DUAR SE TCE IRONY SN EM ELT SEPT. 29, 1976 - Scugog Island and area news By Mrs. Earl Reader Wednesday evening was everything we had hoped for. Even the weather co-oper- when over 250 people ~enjoyed the turkey supper-at the Scugog Island Hall. We admit it was a lot of work. But we had such wonderful help from most of the people in the "Head" area, includ- ing the men. We also appre- ciate the former residents, who come back to help. We thank the young girls who showed so much interest and did their bit, too. But the Island needs younger par- ents to take an interest and carry on, as the older ones tire and give up the heavier work. Attendance at "Grace* Church is increasing again. During vacation it was in the 20's, now in the 40's. Thanks to the return of the children. The girls are doing well but we need more interested boys. After all, they should represent our future leaders. Baby sitting is being arrang- ed for next Sunday, so please bring your children to the Church first. It is hoped that all will be willing to take a turn. Next Sunday will be World Communion. : ,3 . Rev. C. E. Clarke of Prince Albert has been appointed as the regular minister in place of Rev. Pogue. Rev. Wylie will be in charge of visitation and take some services. Next Sunday evening there will be another annual Har- vest Home Service at the "Head" Memorial Church. ~The guest-speaker- will _be _ Rev. Stuart McEntyre of Port Perry. That dearly loved Lake Scugog Histori- cal Choir will provide and lead the music. Of course, we end the evening with a pie social. Those who attended . other years will want to return and also bring their friends. The museum will also be open afterwards for anyone who has still not had a chance to see'it. Parents don't forget to register your Cubs: and Scouts at the Island Com- munity Hall tonight at 7p.m. Then, too, the dance for their benefit is this Saturday night at Club Annrene. Tickets obtainable from any of the leaders. Oh, yes, we promis- ed to give you leader names. It seems that Mr. Bill Can- dry of Pine Point will help with Scouts. However, a new Cub leader is still needed. In the meantime, the Pine Ridge district will help out. It seems that there are lots of boys, but few leaders willling .. sto offepstheir services. Some of the present leaders would like a rest. Can you help? We wish better health for those who are ill.
