22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- WED,, SEPT, 29, 1976 Ontario County 4-H Beef producers report busy season On the evening of Monday, Sept. 7th in the Ontario Min- istry of Agriculture and Food Board-room at 7:30 p.m., the North and Sputh Ontario County 4-H Beef Clubs met "for-their- test. Rep. John Finlay gave us a short review before the test and upon writing the test, we . found that it was mostly multiple choice except for a couple of the last questions from the'lesson about "'Feed- ing Protein and Calculating Rations for Dairy and Beef Cattle". "Asst. Agric. After the matter of the test was behind us, we all relaxed and had lots of fun bowling in Uxbridge. When the great events on September 7th was over, the Ontario Beef Club had to rush around washing, clipp- ing and brushing their calves in last minute preparation for our Achievement Day which was on September 11th. As for the Achievement Day, it ran fairly smoothly for most, but it hit Dave Chambers kind of hard. The members from the South' way he jumped up, it seemed like nothing was wrong with him and we hope, that was the case. CONGRATULATIONS!! to the people who made it to Beaverton Fair with their projects, and especially to John Robertson who.came out on top with his Champion Beef Steer. Well, I guess the 4-H year is pretty well drawing to a close for most members ex- cept af course the proud people whose calves have made the gain of 2.1 pounds per day since May, for they will be going to the "Queen's Guineas' to compete later, in November. It has been a good 4-H year, for me anyway. I've "learned a lot and I'm 'sure that you'll agree that you have, too. 4-H is a club that makes you proud to be a part of, so if all goes well, I'll see you next year. By all means encourage new members to come out to the meetings because the world needs people like the ones that come out of 4-H Clubs. I'd like to write a special thanks to Mr. John Finlay, the Asst. Agric. Rep. that has helped to keep the South" Ontario Beef Club going this past year, by coming to the meetings to teach the lessons and by joining 'in with the rest of us in our recreational activities. Another important factor is Mr. Bruce Gibson who showed us how to groom our calves so they look their best to the judges. I'm sure that some of his techniques were used by the club members that won prizes at the var- ious fairs And last but certainly not least, Mr. Art Richardson, our club leader. He really helped the club in organizing transportation for the calves and members to the fairs and Achievement Day that took place during the club year.
