There will be practice for Centennial Choir at the church Friday Oct 8th and Snowmobile course 'With snowmobiling fatal- ities and injuries still higher than they should be, the time couldn't be better for the snow vehicle operator's courses being introduced by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs and the Ontario Safety League, in conjunction with this Minis- try," says Transportation and Communications Minis- ter James Sriow. "Expert instruction is needed now if we're going to make snowmobiling safer and saner. And with this course, teaching will 'start young', with 12-to-16-year- olds, as well as older begin- ners who do not have an automobile driver's licence." The first motorized snow vehicle area instructors' course was held last month at Barrie where the OFSC graduated 20 area instruc- tors. The federation hopes to have 400,local instructors trained by the end of this year. Under the program, in- structors will go back to their snowmobile areas throughout the province to train club instructors and other interested persons such as police officers and teachers. Club instructors in turn will train young people aged 12 to 16, as well as older learners without a driver's licence. It is anticipated ATTENTION that 50,000 boys and girls will take advantage of these courses. Successful graduates will be issued with a certificate of proficiency which the snow vehicle driver must take to a driver examina- tion centre, where it will be validated as a licence for a $2.00 fee. It will allow licensed holders aged 12 and 13 to operate a snowmobile on public trails; those aged 14 to 16th birthday to operate on public trails and cross a highway at a 90-degree angle; those 16 or over -- who have no Ontario driver's licence -- to operate on public trails, cross high- ways at a 90-degree angle, and operate on highways whee permitted. The snow- mobile licence would expire if the holder was issued an Ontario driver's licence. Mr. Snow said, "My Min- istry will participate in the program by providing club instructors, free of charge, material for courses such as instructors' manuals, pam- phlets, test papers and posters, plus wall charts and accident statistics. The OFSC indicates they can start training your people almost immediately. Those interested in re- ceiving the Motorized Snow Vehicle Operators' Course should contact their local snowmobile club or the Ontario Safety League. FARMERS! |! WHY PAY MORE?
