. Soccer popular ~atR.H. Cornish Contributed This year soccer in R. H. Cornish was organized on three levels. Primary for Grades 1, 2 and 3; Junior for Grades 4, 5 and 6; Senior for Grades 7 and 8. There were over 220 registrations and seventeen teams were form- ed. Scheduling games was a problem but . three fields were put in operation to accomodate games and the season had to be extended into November to complete all house league games. Two Junior teams were selected to represent the school in D.E.A.A. competiton. The girls team played well Hospital Aux. By Mrs. G. Wanamaker Community Memorial Hospital met in the hospital on Oct. 18th with 18 ladies attending. President Mrs. Pugh opened the meeting with a poem and welcomed all to the meeting. Minutes of previous meet- ing were read by the secret- ary and adopted. Correspondence was read and nine thank yous read. for booties received. The treasurer gave a detailed report on the finances which showed a good balance on hand. The fall dance showed a net profit of approx. $500.00 and sale of tickets of afghan brought $175.00. A vote of thanks was tendered to the various committees and all who helped with the above = (continued on page 15) and showed good soccer po skills but were eliminated in Round Robin competition, losing three and tying one game. Results were: Prince Albert 3 - Cornish 0; Cart- wright 2 - Cornish 0; Green- bank 1 - Cornish 0; and Epsom 0 - Cornish 0. The boys team made a shaky start to open their season. After one practice, they lost 1-0 to H. W. Knight in an exhibition game in Cannington. The boys knew they had their work cut out for them and took their practices seriously. The . Central Zone tournament was held in Goodwood on October 14th. In our first game against Cartwright, we were behind quickly 2-0 in the first half. The boys refused to quit and tied the game in-the second half. We went on to win by a score of 54. Results of our games were Cornish 5 - Cartwright 4; Cornish 3 - Raglan 1; Cornish 4 - Uxbridge 0; Cornish 2 - Goodwood 0, to win the Central Zone championships and the Goodwood Trophy. This qualified our team for the Durham Championships held on the Civic Fields in Oshawa on October 19th. Results were Cornish 2 - Meadowcrest 0; Lincoln Avenue 2 - Cornish 1. Our special thanks go to the parents, Mrs. Todd, Mrs. Goreski, Mrs. Jackman, Mrs. Henricks, Mr. Fisher and Mrs. Lee who gave up their time to drive the boys to and from the games. My special thanks go to Mr. Boys from R.H. Cornish clinched the Junior Schools Durham Central Boys' Soccer Championships.
