ARR A AL LY [RAAF PARARE SS { EM adi 6 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1976 Will never allow Quebec separation from Canada The Editor: We do not intend to get mixed up in Quebec politics at this time of the election, but we have noticed in the press that Rene Levesquejis now making statements as to how he plans to take Quebec out of Confeder- ation, if and when he wins this election, in Quebec. Also it states, that the Separatists are growing in numbers; so now is the time when we, the people of Canada, are going to have our word too. That is, we will speak directly to Mr. Levesque, and through him to the Separatists, whoever and wherever they are. To our good friend Levesque - you have quite forgotten or have never realized one very important point, and that is that no matter what you say or do, we the people of Canada, are not going to allow any separation of Quebec -from this great Dongjition. So far we have not taken you very seriously, but now we are making this very clear. We will not stand idly by and allow you to destroy Canada in this way. Never. Never. NEVER. What we need now is a . new Abraham Lincoln who said 'No nation can exist half slave and half free". + What we will say is that no nation or body can exist if you cut it in two in the middle. And there are millions of people in Canada who will lay down their lives if necessary to see that nothing of this: kind will or can happen. Gil So we say to Rene Levesque - just stop talking nonsense and get on with the business of governing a country that stretches from Sea to shing Sea. We are not going to let you take Quebec or any part of it, out of Confederation. You might as well gear yourself to that fact. On Armistice Day you will see a mighty demonstration all across Canada as we recall the scenes and experiences of the loss of the wary of 1914-1918. Many thousands of our comrades gave their lives for this great Nation, and in no way are we going to allow you, Rene Levesque, or anybody else tear it apart. After we have said that, we are really not very much afraid of what you might do, or of what you say. Because we know there are many staunch Canadians in Quebec, both Anglophones and Francophones too, and no doubt lots of others, who love this great country. NEVER PAI I AGAIN! So when we hear you say that you will have a refer- endum (a very foolish assumption), we answer and say to you, just pipe down a bit. For when you hear the voice of Canada, 'you will see that there is not going to be any separation. Remember Jackson thought that the Southern States would just secede, but Lin- coln and millions. of others shut him up quite effectiv- ely. Will we have to do that with you, too? g Yours sincerely, 2 » Geo. H. Hambley Failure of maintaining roads (continued) Council only for reasonable minimum maintenance and snow plowing and did not demand repairs to the full extent that we could have, but because of their refusal , to give us that minimum, or even to agree to set aside funds in next year's budget for this work - our own very high taxes incidentally - we have reluctantly been com- pelled to take this action out of desperation. It might also be of in- terest to other taxpayers in the township to note that there are damages being claimed - for deprivation of access to our home among other things -,and these damages could far exceed the amount that. it would actually cost the Township to maintain the road.
