PLAN TO ATTEND: The Scugog Ratepayers Association has put a list of 14 questions before the over 20° candidates who will be running for positions on Scugog Township Counci this December. : : The questionnaire is par - of the .assocfation's plan to stage three all-candidates' meetings before the Dec. 6 municipal elections. Although chaired by the ratepayers association, the November 30th meeting will be sponsored by the Scugog Chamber of Commerce. All meetings will start at 8 p.m. In a scheme designed to make the all-candidates meetings as informative as possible, candidates are asked to fill out the question- naire by November 22. On receipt, the association will re-produce the candid- ° ' ates submissions and distri- bute them to their mémbers. Copies will also be available at each of the meetings for all attending constituents. . It is hoped that the method will engender constructive ~ discussion, avoid repetition; and provide audiences 'with an information base from which to- ask questions' of" interest to them. . Questions on the question- naire are as follows: 1. December 4th at the ort Perry High School grounds, proceed down Queen Street to the Latcham Centre. Santa will be on hand at the Centre to hand out bags of goodies -to the wide-eyed youngsters. Also this year, one of the bands will go to the Port Perry Plaza to entertain shoppers 'in that area. The parade is sponsored by the Scugog Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Malcolm said the district plan as spoken of in the Regional Official plan is a general plan on a speci- fied area and should jnclude the land within a natural boundary such as a road, a river or lake, a high ridge... anything that could be inter- as _a . natural boundary. : ~ However in the case of a Hamlet, which is usually located on a crossroads, the district plan will fan out -in every direction to one of the above mentioned natural boundaries. What are your views ' concerning the proportion of Town Hall 1873: Highlanders concert Music lovers in the Scugog Township area are given a rare opportunity to hear one of Canada's finest concert bands in the Town Hall this Friday evening. The hard working Town Hall program committee has been successful in bringing to Port Perry the famous Concert Band of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. This is a real privelege for a community of Port Perry's size and certainly demands a full house on Friday night. id Part of the 48th Highland Regiment, the band has played not only in the major cities of North America, but has travelled to various Skate-athon cancelled The skate-AThon scheduled for this weekend by Scugog Minor Hockey and Figure Skating Club has been can- celled due to what is expec- ted to be minor delay in the opening of the new arena. The skate-athon, sche- dules to be the initial event on a brand-new ice surface at the $3; million facility, was to be held this weekend to raise money to pay for the arena project. " The old arena will be used until the new arena is open- ed, but skate-athon ofgan- izers feel that the skate- athon should be held in the building and will postpone the event. - Consider licencing outsiders Scugog Township Council will investigate what other area municipalities are doing about licencing resid- ent and outside tradesmen to operate in their commun- ity, it was decided at the regular Monday meeting. Coun. Don Frew put it , bluntly: "When someone comes to town and offers you some money for doing - something, perhaps you should take it." Council's action came £ g HM nods of approval. When someone suggested that perhaps a portion of the township staff Christmas party should be paid for through township funds, Coun. Don Frew said the ratepayers should not be expected to pay for such things.
