Last weekend the Port Perry Malmont Farms Atoms travelled to Peter- borough for the annual Lift- lock Atom Hockey Tourna- ment. The team gave a good account of themselves . as they reached the consola- to the Campbellford Atoms. On Saturday in their first game of the tournament the Port Perry team squeaked Hanover Kitchen Atoms. The game itself was a close affair as both tears had numerous chances to .in- crease the score. Scoring for Port Perry to give them the victory were two of the defencemen, namely Steven Lee and Darren Desaultes. Both were very fine goals. Steven's resulted from a fine effort on his part while 'Darren scored with a high hard shot from his defence position. Paul Bateman went the distance in the Port Perry net and. along with the rest of his team- mates he came up with a strong effort to secure. the win. Due to scheduling difficul- ties, the Port Atoms next game on Saturday was against = Bryon Major Atoms, a team in a higher category based on popula- tion. But none the less, the Port Atoms could have had this game but they came up a little flat and found themselves on the short end of a 1-0 score. Coach Bob Lee pulled the goalie late in - the game but unfortunately the effort fell a little short. Paul Goreski went the dis- tance in net for Port Perry and he played a solid game allowing just the single marker. By the luck of the draw, Port Perry won the next game by default and auto- Skate-a-thon 'continued in support of the new arena. ~" Skate-a-thon organizers bon are pleased with the overall ) project, and are hoping -to 7 make the event an annual 55 one. i Anyone wishing to hand their money in may do so A by depositing it in either the fi Bank of Commerce or the Royal Bank along with the sponsor sheet. Paul Bateman went the distance in net and he made some fine stops. The Port Perry Atoms are now await- ing the start of their league play-offs against Uxbridge Atoms. Broomball activities Utica 1 - Smits 0 Last Sunday featured great goaltending from all . six clubs. This game was no exception as Dennis Symes for Utica and Bill Gerber of Smits stood out amongst the crowd and showed their talent. Smit's who have a claim on last place showed a strong effort in trying to overpower the mighty second place Utica. In the first period, Smit's were shorthanded, which is something that has hurt them all season, but they killed off all the minors served by John Gerber, Barry McLure and Casey VanSchagen. Utica scored the first goal of the game as 'Ron Redman blistered a shot that stretched the mesh for the winning goal. Mike - Mitchell and Ken Davidson assisted. Late in the second period, Ron Redman drew an interference penalty that gave Smit's a bid for a tie, but Dennis Symes stood the test throughout the, penalty - and the remainder of the third period to register the shutout and the win. Brooklin 4 - Brian's 0 - This game was not played the way it sounds as Brian's played a respectful game in front of fantastic goaltend- ing from Wayne Cox. Murray Down increased the lead to two with Dave Fuller and Randy Church assisting. Paul Christie of the Brian's club was given a minor penalty for tripping and Brooklin scored a power play goal giving them the "huge lead with only five -. minutes remaining. Brian's still short handed as Dave Dalton received a miscon- duct on Christie's penalty were once -again scored on by Marty VanHeuval from John VanHeuval and Tom Lewis. ' Cawker's 3 - Coulter's 1 Coulter's took the lead on a power play goal from: Brian Parrish as Bob Stevens and Rick Collins received assists.
